What is this event? It's like a more low-key version of Homecoming. Student council will be providing snacks, drinks, games/activities, a photo booth, dance floor, and a DJ for your enjoyment during the bash.
What do I wear? Think dinner attire...you can go fancy or you can go dressy casual. Follow the theme and wear black and white! To get some inspiration, you can CLICK HERE to see the mood board we have created :) No sweats, hoodies, or PJs allowed.
Can I bring an outside guest? No. This event is for current Faith Lutheran High School students only.
How much are tickets? Tickets are $25 and will increase to $45 on January 18.
Are tickets sold at the door? No. Ticket sales will conclude on Saturday, January 20 at 12pm. Buy your tickets now!
How do I buy my tickets? We are again using Hometown Ticketing. The link is below.
Do I need to bring a ticket to the dance? Yes. Once tickets have been purchased, you will receive a confirmation email that includes the ticket/QR code. Make sure to bring that paper ticket (or a screenshot of it) as well as a valid ID. The name on the ticket must match the ID / person attending.

Faith Lutheran is pairing up with the NFL and Las Vegas Raiders for the NFL Green Charity Project! This means Faith Lutheran will be collecting gently used or new sports equipment, books, board games and school supplies for schools and families in need throughout the Las Vegas area in December & January. In January, donation boxes will be posted near drop-off areas at the Shield, Northeast Amphitheater Gate, 6th grade drop-off area, and Business Center after the new year. Donations will also be accepted in December at the Office of Student Life located in the Aux Gym. MostPrep's Winter/Spring 2024 SAT/ACT Classes

FLHS is pleased to announce that MostPrep will be running both SAT courses at FLHS in preparation for the two most popular SAT dates later in the school year and, for the first time at FLHS, an ACT course leading up to the school-based ACT on April 9. You may use this LINK to sign up for a class. There is a limit of 25 students per session, so registrations will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact MostPrep by e-mail (mostprep@gmail.com) or phone (702-896-1307 -- this is a landline, so please don't send a text!) if you have any questions. Here is a list of course offerings; no student may register for more than 1 course, and these courses are only open to current juniors. FLHS will bill students' accounts for these courses after they begin.

SAT Winter Course, January 31 - March 8: This 6-week course ($700) aims to fully cover the most important content for the new digital SAT, all of which carries over to the ACT. Two proctored practice tests are included. This course will meet on Wednesday nights (7 - 9:30pm) and Friday afternoons (4 - 5:30pm), except for Ash Wednesday; the course will meet on Monday night that week instead. Practice tests will run from 8am - 10:30am on February 24 and March 2, which are the final two Saturdays before the March SAT. MostPrep recommends that students who have multiple AP classes take the March SAT so they can devote the time they need to studying for the AP tests, which they only get one chance to take!

ACT course, February 6 - April 4: This 8-week course ($800) aims to fully cover the most important content for the ACT, including the harder math and the science section, which are both beyond the scope of the SAT. Two proctored practice tests are included. This course will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (7-9pm); the course will not meet over spring break. Practice tests will run from 8am - 11:30am on March 2 and March 23.

SAT Spring Course, March 27 - May 3: This 6-week course ($700) aims to fully cover the most important content for the new digital SAT, all of which carries over to the ACT. Two proctored practice tests are included. This course will meet on Wednesday nights (7 - 9:30pm) and Friday afternoons (4 - 5:30pm), except for Good Friday; the course will meet on Thursday afternoon that week instead. This course will not be meeting over spring break. Practice tests will run from 8am - 10:30am on April 20 and April 27, which are the final two Saturdays before the May SAT.

2023/2024 School Year

If you are planning on participating in High School Sports, please complete your Aktivate registration for the 2023/2024 school year ASAP. The website is as follows: aktivate.com

HS Sports Physicals – Please use NEW NIAA Physical forms as of 4/1/23:

You can obtain the most current physical forms/instructions from Crusader Connect, Resources Page, under MS/HS Sports Registration Information.

Aktivate Instructions/NIAA New Physical forms to be used effective 4/1/23

Please do not use the physical forms provided by the doctor’s office. They are usually not current and will be rejected.

--Physicals expire 12 months from the date of the doctor’s signature. –Up to date physicals are required for the 2023/2024 school year. It is recommended to schedule your physical in June or July so it’s good for the whole year.

--All completed physicals must be uploaded into Aktivate for approval. –If your athlete’s physical expires before or during the season, they will not be allowed to try out for a team. Example: Your child is trying out for a fall sport, your previously completed physical was done on 11/10/22. The physical expired as of 11/10/23. It will not be valid for the 2023/2024 Fall season since it expires during the Fall season. A new physical must be obtained before the season in order for your athlete to tryout for their Fall sport.

If you are interested in taking Applied Christianity class next year as a 7th or 8th grader please read on. Applications are NOW OPEN! You must fill out this application by February 2nd to be considered. Teacher Recommendation and Interview information is included on the application. Class rosters will be decided around Spring Break time. No, you don’t pick which class you are in or if you get to be with your friends.: )

FYI: In Applied Christianity, students study the Word of God, make applications of that study to the lives of students today, plan the order of worship from Invocation to Benediction (beginning to end), and lead their fellow students in worship each week. Yay for Thursday! Yearbook club meets on Thursdays in Mrs. Snodgrass's rm 220 from 3:25-4:45. This is open to 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade.

7^th and 8^th grade working lunch

7th and 8th grade working lunch will be held every Monday and Wednesday. This is a time to work on school work or study for a test, etc. If you would like to attend a working lunch, you must fill out this form ahead of time and bring your own lunch. Students will come to room 501 with their lunch and will stay the entire lunch period. Working lunch is limited to 25 students each lunch.

DEVOTIONS

Today’s Reading: Mark 8:27-9:1

Daily Lectionary:Ezekiel 40:1-4; 43:1-12; Romans 8:18-39

And [Jesus] asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him. (Mark 8:29–30)

In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Peter gets the answer right. Jesus asks the big question and Peter aces the quiz. Who is Jesus? The Christ. Today we remember St. Peter and his bold confession of faith. But on a day like today, it can be just as easy to remember Peter’s many less-than-correct answers to big questions. Just after Peter’s great confession, Jesus calls him Satan because Peter refuses to accept Jesus must die. On the night Jesus is betrayed, Peter denies His Lord three times, insisting he does not know Jesus, even when asked repeatedly. But in this moment, He says the right thing at the right time. How did this lowly fisherman get this answer right when he so often missed the mark?

In Matthew’s account of this same event, we are given the answer. Jesus says, “Flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.” This great confession is given to Peter. It is not his own, invented in his mind to impress his Teacher of the other apostles. God the Father revealed this confession to Peter, gave it to him freely, and enabled this sinner to boldly confess, “You are the Christ.”

This is why we remember St. Peter the Apostle and his confession. This great confession of faith doesn’t belong just to Peter but to you. Jesus is the Christ, Who takes away the sin of the world. He does so out of love and not because we have earned it. Because we continually fail that Christ came for us sinners. Join in the confession of St. Peter because it belongs to you too. Who do we say Jesus is? The Christ, the Son of God, born in human flesh to save the world from sin, death, and the devil. This Christ died a sinner’s death and rose from the dead that we may also have eternal life. This Christ calls you His own in the waters of Baptism. This Christ offers Himself freely in His Body and Blood at the Lord’s Table. This Christ, this Jesus, is yours, given freely. We thank God for St. Peter and his confession because this is our confession too. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.

Here stands the font before our eyes, telling how God has received us. The altar recalls Christ’s sacrifice and what His Supper here gives us. Here sounds the Scriptures that proclaim Christ yesterday, today, the same, and evermore, our Redeemer. (LSB 645:4)
