Students cannot be too prepared for one of the world’s most competitive markets. Delve into the art and craft of visual storytelling, honing your skills in preparation for a career in this vibrant field. The Film & Broadcasting Academy is handcrafted to train students as artistic leaders in filmmaking, broadcast, and digital journalism.

  • Portfolios


    With the most advanced cameras, drones, and a state-of-the-art studio, students create and produce their own films, live broadcasts, and online articles. Broadcast journalism graduates boast portfolios with a working knowledge of broadcast or digital media production from interviewing and reporting, to shooting and editing. Film graduate portfolios include 3D animation, visual FX, screenwriting, and short films.
  • Opportunities


    Film & Broadcasting Academy requirements include the specialized journalism courses Broadcast Journalism, Sports Programming/Investigative Reporting, and News Production Leadership.  Students also gain LIVE broadcast experience outside of the studio utilizing Faith’s LIVE “Newscrewzer” at sporting events. Specialized film courses include Art of Filmmaking, Graphic Design 2: Motion Graphics, Cinema Studio: Directing & Producing, and Cinematic Arts Practicum. In addition, students in the Academy complete a 50+ hour internship with a local broadcasting or film agency or produce their own short film.
  • Endorsement


    Faith Lutheran High School offers an Academy of Film & Broadcasting Endorsement in either Film or Broadcast Journalism that is added to a student’s transcript upon completion. The endorsement, as well as students’ digital portfolios, offer students a competitive advantage as they apply to Film and Journalism Schools.

Requirements & Coursework

  • Broadcast Journalism Students

    Invitations to the Academy will be sent out in January for freshmen and sophomores to apply who earn a 90% or higher in Broadcast Journalism for first semester.

    While in the program, these students must earn a 90% or higher in all required courses:
    • Broadcast Journalism, Sports Programming/Investigative Reporting, News Production Leadership - Honors.
  • Film Students

    Invitations to the Academy will be sent out in January for freshmen and sophomores to apply who earn an 95% or higher in Art of Filmmaking for first semester.
     
    While in the program, these students must earn an 90% or higher in all required courses: 
    • Art of Filmmaking, Cinema Studio: Directing & Producing - Honors
    • Choice of Graphic Design 2: Motion Graphics or Cinematic Arts Practicum - Honors.
  • MIDDLE SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES

    Middle school students interested in Film & Broadcasting can consider enrolling in Drama, Film & Literature, Introduction to Filmmaking, News Broadcasting, Photography, and Website Design. Please also watch announcements for joining the Video Production Club.
