HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Starting March 5th, the charity of the month will be Books 4 the Kids. Books 4 the Kids supports the non-profit organization Cure 4 the Kids. This non-profit foundation helps children receive cancer treatments and the latest and most current treatments for specialized diseases. During treatment, the kids are provided with supplies such as books and craft supplies. Cure 4 the Kids is currently experiencing a shortage of books for patients to read during their infusions. If you can donate, please drop off books (children through young adult) or craft supplies in the donation boxes located near the Shield store and the Homestretch Greenhouse drop off locations. To raise funds, there will also be a bake sale from March 18th to 22nd (the week we return from Spring Break) during all lunches. Buy treats and support Books 4 the Kids! (4/5)
Consider being a Volunteer at our Resource Fair on Thursday, March 28 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at Whitney Rec Center (Boulder Highway and Tropicana). Lutheran Social Services needs your help at their Easter Egg Hunt & Resource Fair. Sign up here. (3/25)
Just a reminder about our annual March Madness - Food Truck event. Students, please check the dates so that you know when your class will have your turn. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR STUDENT ID in order to participate! Please enter the event through the large green gate near the Greenhouse. All other gates leading to Homestretch Drive are off limits. Please check the attached flyer for a list of vendors, costs, etc. Feel free to check out the vendor websites for information regarding any food or dietary restrictions. The FL cafeteria will still be open and students/employees can still bring their lunch if they prefer. (3/28)
Opportunity for Faith Students to be Involved in an Official Launch of a Cool New Technology!
For a number of years, Faith has worked with a Harvard graduate from Las Vegas, Saul Holding, as he has developed various technologies related to education and high school social emotional development. His latest product, Champion AI, is intended to help develop executive functioning skills and help students manage their time more effectively. 70 Faith students have been involved in beta testing this product since November, and it is now ready for official launch for $10/month exclusively to Faith Lutheran students as an app on any Apple device that integrates with the student’s academic data in Crusader Connect in real time. Calling all rising Juniors and Seniors for the 2024/2025 school year! The FBI Teen Academy is a two-day program that allows high school students an opportunity to get a comprehensive look into today's FBI. Students are provided with several
presentations on topics including terrorism, cybercrime, public corruption, evidence response, SWAT, and the day-to-day operations of a typical FBI office. Please see attached flier for information. (4/12)

Applications for the Charity of the Month program will open on Thursday, Feb 1, 2024. In an effort to encourage strong values of philanthropy and community involvement among our students, the Office of Student Life offers the opportunity for students to propose a charity that will receive school-wide support. Each charity will be assigned a month where the Faith Family will be encouraged to contribute to fundraising or collection effort solicited for that month’s charity. All charitable fundraising through this program is student led with student leaders working together with the Director of Student Life. If you would like to submit a charitable organization for consideration of support during the 2024-25 academic year, please complete the Request for Consideration form. Forms are attached. Printed forms are located outside of the Office of Student Life. Requests for consideration must be submitted to the Office of Student Life no later than March 19, 2024. (3/8)

MostPrep's Winter/Spring 2024 SAT/ACT Classes
FLHS is pleased to announce that MostPrep will be running both SAT courses at FLHS in preparation for the two most popular SAT dates later in the school year and, for the first time at FLHS, an ACT course leading up to the school-based ACT on April 9. You may use this LINK to sign up for a class. There is a limit of 25 students per session, so registrations will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact MostPrep by e-mail (mostprep@gmail.com) or phone (702-896-1307 -- this is a landline, so please don't send a text!) if you have any questions. Here is a list of course offerings; no student may register for more than 1 course, and these courses are only open to current juniors. FLHS will bill students' accounts for these courses after they begin.
SAT Spring Course, March 27 - May 3: This 6-week course ($700) aims to fully cover the most important content for the new digital SAT, all of which carries over to the ACT. Two proctored practice tests are included. This course will meet on Wednesday nights (7 - 9:30pm) and Friday afternoons (4 - 5:30pm), except for Good Friday; the course will meet on Thursday afternoon that week instead. This course will not be meeting over spring break. Practice tests will run from 8am - 10:30am on April 20 and April 27, which are the final two Saturdays before the May SAT.

HS Sports Physicals – Please use NEW NIAA Physical forms as of 4/1/23:
You can obtain the most current physical forms/instructions from Crusader Connect, Resources Page, under MS/HS Sports Registration Information.
Aktivate Instructions/NIAA New Physical forms to be used effective 4/1/23
Please do not use the physical forms provided by the doctor’s office. They are usually not current and will be rejected.
--Physicals expire 12 months from the date of the doctor’s signature. –Up to date physicals are required for the 2023/2024 school year. It is recommended to schedule your physical in June or July so it’s good for the whole year.
--All completed physicals must be uploaded into Aktivate for approval. –If your athlete’s physical expires before or during the season, they will not be allowed to try out for a team. Example: Your child is trying out for a fall sport, your previously completed physical was done on 11/10/22. The physical expired as of 11/10/23. It will not be valid for the 2023/2024 Fall season since it expires during the Fall season. A new physical must be obtained before the season in order for your athlete to tryout for their Fall sport.

HOUSE OF ETHOS - is hosting a celebration of the different races, cultures and ethnicities here on campus and specifically in the House Ethos. The target date for our lunch celebration is the first week of March, Wednesday March 6th (a Gold Day). Tables will be set up providing sample cups so students, teachers & staff can come by and try the various dishes during lunch. A photo of the dish will be displayed with detail as to history, region of origin, and/or special occasions that the dish is meant for or is traditionally eaten. (3/6)

7th and 8th grade working lunch
7th and 8th grade working lunch will be held every Monday and Wednesday. This is a time to work on school work or study for a test, etc. If you would like to attend a working lunch, you must fill out this form ahead of time and bring your own lunch. Students will come to room 501 with their lunch and will stay the entire lunch period. Working lunch is limited to 25 students each lunch.

And Pharisees came up and in order to test him asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away.” And Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.” (Mark 10:2-5)
In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. This is one of those hard passages of Scripture that makes people cringe at how out of date Jesus is. Surely Jesus isn’t telling us that divorce is unlawful, because Jesus understands that we all live in the real world. Even Moses and the Pharisees understood this reality, so surely Jesus would provide a little more leeway. But Jesus claps back, informing them that the only reason Moses allowed for the “certificate of divorce” loophole was because of their hardness of heart.
Jesus doesn’t take the easy way out and try to untangle the legal mess, instead He points out that the primary issue here is the hardness of heart in regard to the will of God. Hard hearts are not receptive to the will of God, which means they cause us to sin, cause others to sin against us, and cause us to compound each other’s sins. Hard hearts are not hearts softened by the Word of God, cultivating the fruit of the Spirit, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and self-control. Instead of treating each other according to the fruit of the Spirit, even in our marriages, hard hearts have marriages shaped by the works of the flesh marked by such things as idolatry, sexual immorality, jealousy, enmity, anger, etc. It’s easy to see why marriages formed this way would lead to divorce.
Yet, it’s also clear that this supposed loophole isn’t really a loophole at all. This is because the answer to the fruits of our hard hearts and prevalent sin is not a loophole in the Law that we can claim to avoid accountability. In the face of God’s Law the answer is not a good lawyer to argue our case, pull some fancy legal maneuver, and get us acquitted on a technicality. No. The answer to the Law’s condemnation, to the hardness of all of our hearts, is to plead our guilt, and beg the mercy of our judge. But thanks be to God it is His joy to have mercy on His beloved in the name of Jesus, His only begotten Son. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.
