Calling all rising Juniors and Seniors for the 2024/2025 school year! The FBI Teen Academy is a two-day program that allows high school students an opportunity to get a comprehensive look into today's FBI. Students are provided with several
presentations on topics including terrorism, cybercrime, public corruption, evidence response, SWAT, and the day-to-day operations of a typical FBI office. Please see attached flier for information. (4/12)

- You must have a completed and approved Aktivate. You cannot try out without it.

Applications for the Charity of the Month program will open on Thursday, Feb 1, 2024. In an effort to encourage strong values of philanthropy and community involvement among our students, the Office of Student Life offers the opportunity for students to propose a charity that will receive school-wide support. Each charity will be assigned a month where the Faith Family will be encouraged to contribute to fundraising or collection effort solicited for that month’s charity. All charitable fundraising through this program is student led with student leaders working together with the Director of Student Life. If you would like to submit a charitable organization for consideration of support during the 2024-25 academic year, please complete the Request for Consideration form. Forms are attached. Printed forms are located outside of the Office of Student Life. Requests for consideration must be submitted to the Office of Student Life no later than March 19, 2024. (3/8)

Black History Month
" A Seat at the Table"
Inspired by Langston Hughes's words of I, Too, the theme of our Black History Month is " A Seat at the Table." There will be many events in which students and staff can participate in.
1. Middle School & High School Door Decorating
Decorate your door to showcase influential people of color, past and present, that have made a difference in our society, including music, politics, writers, actors or anyone who has changed our society!! Decorating can begin February 1 through February 15. Winning Class will receive Randy's Donuts!! There will be a winner for Middle School & High School. Teachers have been given information about how to sign up their class in the Monday Memo and Friday Bulletins.
2. A Seat at the Table Speakers
Multicultural Club's First A Seat at the Table will be a series of speaking engagements highlighting the individuals' speakers achievements and community work. Middle School teachers can sign up their 2nd block and high school teachers can sign up their advisory. Parents and staff are also welcome! Presentations will be on February 12th & February 23rd from 10:35am-11:15am. Individual high school students (with permission from your advisory teacher), staff & parents,

MostPrep's Winter/Spring 2024 SAT/ACT Classes
FLHS is pleased to announce that MostPrep will be running both SAT courses at FLHS in preparation for the two most popular SAT dates later in the school year and, for the first time at FLHS, an ACT course leading up to the school-based ACT on April 9. You may use this LINK to sign up for a class. There is a limit of 25 students per session, so registrations will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact MostPrep by e-mail (mostprep@gmail.com) or phone (702-896-1307 -- this is a landline, so please don't send a text!) if you have any questions. Here is a list of course offerings; no student may register for more than 1 course, and these courses are only open to current juniors. FLHS will bill students' accounts for these courses after they begin.
SAT Winter Course, January 31 - March 8: This 6-week course ($700) aims to fully cover the most important content for the new digital SAT, all of which carries over to the ACT. Two proctored practice tests are included. This course will meet on Wednesday nights (7 - 9:30pm) and Friday afternoons (4 - 5:30pm), except for Ash Wednesday; the course will meet on Monday night that week instead. Practice tests will run from 8am - 10:30am on February 24 and March 2, which are the final two Saturdays before the March SAT. MostPrep recommends that students who have multiple AP classes take the March SAT so they can devote the time they need to studying for the AP tests, which they only get one chance to take!
ACT course, February 6 - April 4: This 8-week course ($800) aims to fully cover the most important content for the ACT, including the harder math and the science section, which are both beyond the scope of the SAT. Two proctored practice tests are included. This course will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (7-9pm); the course will not meet over spring break. Practice tests will run from 8am - 11:30am on March 2 and March 23.
SAT Spring Course, March 27 - May 3: This 6-week course ($700) aims to fully cover the most important content for the new digital SAT, all of which carries over to the ACT. HS Sports Physicals – Please use NEW NIAA Physical forms as of 4/1/23:
You can obtain the most current physical forms/instructions from Crusader Connect, Resources Page, under MS/HS Sports Registration Information.

Please do not use the physical forms provided by the doctor’s office. They are usually not current and will be rejected.
--Physicals expire 12 months from the date of the doctor’s signature. –Up to date physicals are required for the 2023/2024 school year. It is recommended to schedule your physical in June or July so it’s good for the whole year.
--All completed physicals must be uploaded into Aktivate for approval. –If your athlete’s physical expires before or during the season, they will not be allowed to try out for a team. Example: Your child is trying out for a fall sport, your previously completed physical was done on 11/10/22. The physical expired as of 11/10/23. It will not be valid for the 2023/2024 Fall season since it expires during the Fall season. A new physical must be obtained before the season in order for your athlete to tryout for their Fall sport.

FYI: In Applied Christianity, students study the Word of God, make applications of that study to the lives of students today, plan the order of worship from Invocation to Benediction (beginning to end), and lead their fellow students in worship each week. Yay for Thursday! Yearbook club meets on Thursdays in Mrs. Snodgrass's rm 220 from 3:25-4:45. This is open to 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade.
7th and 8th grade working lunch
7th and 8th grade working lunch will be held every Monday and Wednesday. This is a time to work on school work or study for a test, etc. If you would like to attend a working lunch, you must fill out this form ahead of time and bring your own lunch. Students will come to room 501 with their lunch and will stay the entire lunch period. Working lunch is limited to 25 students each lunch.

DEVOTIONS
Today’s Reading: 2 Corinthians 3:12-18

But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17
In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Freedom is a nice word. As Americans we love it. Freedom from oppression, freedom to speak your mind without fear, freedom to … —you fill in the blank.
But we have to know that Paul is speaking of something else. Something more profound, more meaningful. For this freedom comes from the Holy Spirit, our Lord. For Paul, it is freedom from what? From the veil. The veil is removed and the Christian is free, you are free!
The veil is removed and we see our Lord for who He is, the Suffering Servant who is serving us with all His gifts. The veil is removed and we see that in the death of Jesus, we have died our death to the Law. For Jesus accounts His death to us, so that in Baptism, we are united to the death and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus (see Paul’s extolling of Baptism in Romans 6).
The veil is removed and our eyes of faith see that we are no longer slaves to sin, death, and the devil, but our Lord has freed us to live as His own, daily standing up in the gift of repentance, that is, standing up to live in righteousness and purity by faith. This is the work of our Lord, the Holy Spirit, who daily keeps us in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus.
The Holy Spirit knows your temptations and weaknesses, He knows your doubts and failings. And He wants you troubled or enslaved by none of it! So He brings you to the gifts of Christ. When you hear the words, “I forgive you all your sins,” you may know that the Holy Spirit is there, in those words, by those words, freeing you from the guilt of your sin. When you remember the promise of your Baptism, the promise that you bear the Holy Name and that in the promise of Baptism Jesus is with you, even until the end of the age, the Holy Spirit is there, in that promise, daily cleansing you and making you His own. When you hear Jesus say (through the mouth of the pastor), “Take and eat, my body; Take and drink, my blood for the forgiveness of your sin,” the Holy Spirit is there, by those words delivering the holy body and blood once shed upon the cross to your mouth now—all to forgive you, to give you life, to make you free. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.
O Holy Spirit, my Lord, remove the veil which enslaves me to the Law. Free me from my doubts, from my despair, from the lies of the devil. Let me hear the Words of my Savior, Christ Jesus. Keep me steadfast in his Word. Amen.
