Are you interested in helping? Do you have a passion for philanthropy? The Office of Student Life would like you to consider this:
In an effort to encourage strong values of philanthropy and community involvement among our students, the Faith Lutheran HS Student Leadership Team along with the MS Student Council will select 6 of the 8 charities per academic year that will receive school-wide support. Each charity will be assigned a month (Aug*, Sept, Oct*, Nov, Dec/Jan, Jan/Feb*, Mar/Apr & May) where the Faith Family will be encouraged to contribute to fundraising or collection efforts solicited for that month’s charity. *The council’s have recognized and approved World Vision sponsorships (Aug-HS Only) & Walk for Water (May-HS Only); Operation Christmas Child as a Faith tradition each October/November and the Pacific SW District of the LCMS’ district-wide charity each February, kicking off during NLSW at the end of January.
Selected charitable projects can be combined with the support of interested Honor Societies as charitable projects are required by their charters.
If you would like to submit a charitable organization for consideration of support during the 2020-21 academic year, please fill out the attached form. Forms must be returned to the Office of Student Life no later than April 1, 2020. Forms received after this date will not be considered.
Also attached is the current year's giving plan which includes information to keep in mind when submitting a consideration form for next year's plan.
Presentations to the HS Student Leadership Team & MS Student Council will be held on April 14 (& 16, if necessary), 2020 during G3.
Charity of the Month is a student led effort - no adults need apply!
Bake sale for an honors project - please show your support!. There will be a bake sale going on in the amphitheater from 7:10-8:10. This bake sale will be happening at the same time and place every Monday during the month of March with the exception of 3/9. All proceeds go toward the charity of the month, the Tyler Robinson Foundation. Please come and support! We will be selling HOMEMADE donuts, bagels, and cupcakes!!

Unique Service Opportunity:
A local band “THE SENIOR MOMENTS” is looking for some help!
The band performs on a volunteer basis for various Sun City organizations and at retirement homes and similar venues, presenting a one-hour variety show. The sound and related equipment (mic stands, speakers, PA, etc) has become burdensome to lift and move. They are looking for help loading and unloading their equipment for “gigs.” Benefits to student "roadies" include helping to provide free entertainment to other seniors as well as being involved in producing and presenting events. (These are eligible for Community Crusade service hours, too.) Volunteers will be provided a modest tip to cover gas money. The Show dates and times are ongoing with the first show scheduled for March 14, 2020. They are hoping to have a pool of individuals from which to contact as events are scheduled. COMMUNITY CRUSADER SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
Faith Lutheran Academy Spring Gala
On April 25, 2020 Faith Lutheran Academy will be hosting its Spring Gala fundraising event. We are requesting high school students to help us work the event from 5 to 11 PM on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Red Rock Casino. A total of 12 students are needed. This will count towards service hours.
Students will assist in the following areas:
-Greeters
-Registration/Check in
-Raffle/Game ticket sales
-Gift card wall/Table game assistance
-Silent auction runner (communicating status to committee members)
-General assistance/Floaters
Expectations:
-This event is best suited for extroverts.
-We encourage students to interact with guests throughout the evening.
-The dress for this event is formal attire. Students should dress accordingly.
-Cell phones should not make an appearance at the event.

Description of the Event: Get together for clients and their families from Opportunity Village.
The picnic will include games, food, photo booth, and a live DJ
Time student volunteers would be needed: 10:30am - 2:30pm
What volunteers will do: Assisting with set up, helping disabled participate in games, & clean up.

COMMUNITY CRUSADER SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
It's that time of year again: the As They Grow Consignment Sales are back! We need LOTS of volunteers willing to represent Baby's Bounty throughout each sale weekend. The Season Opener will be March 13th~15th; while the Season Finale will be held the weekend of May 15th~17th. Regardless of which event you choose, you will undoubtedly be asked to fold clothing, assist customers, put items away, etc. Both events will be held at 4500 N. Rancho Dr. (near the intersection of N. Rancho & W. Craig.) Below are the days and shifts available (you may choose as many as you'd like!):

DEVOTIONAL
Today’s Reading: 1 Samuel 17:40-51
Daily Lectionary: Genesis 13:1-18; Mark 5:1-20
And then the Philistine said to David, “Come to me and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field.” (1 Samuel 17:44)
Merry Lent! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Today we learn about how wonderful the Lord’s salvation is. We receive the God who saves us not only from being conquered or beaten by an opposing army or team, but also from the real enemy: death.
Death reigned. With its sting sin and its power, the Law, death ruled from the time Adam ate of the Tree. Death is the curse, the judgment of sin. Try as we may, no one beats death. Everyone dies because everyone sins.
No one could beat the giant Goliath. He was the greatest warrior of his day. He was unstoppable. He would come out and taunt God and the children of Israel. King Saul, who should have saved them, cowered before Goliath. The children of Israel hid behind their shields. No one dared to go out and face him.
God did. God sent His man, David, His future king, out to meet Goliath. Saul tried to load him up with his own armor, but it was too big for little David. He took only his sling and a few smooth stones. Goliath laughed and mocked David. “Are you going to come after me with a twig?” Boom! David knocked out the giant and then used Goliath’s own sword to chop off his head!
Jesus, the son of King David, is born just like every other child of Adam. He doesn’t hide like Saul, but takes on our unbeatable enemy. Good Friday seems like defeat. There Jesus hangs dead on the Cross. There He seems to be defeated. But that’s God hanging there dead on the Cross! God in the flesh. David’s son is God’s Son. Jesus doesn’t overcome death with the force of arms but with the twig, the tree of the Cross. Death is overcome by death. Its sting is undone. It is now toothless. Death is done!
Death no longer reigns! Your heart may stop ticking, but will it die? Not anymore! In Jesus, even though your flesh dies, yet shall you live. And all those who live and believe in Him will never die (John 11:26).
Because of the Cross, death is a nap, a gift, a place where the reality of Jesus’ victory over death is realized by those who believe. In Jesus, death has no dominion over you. In Christ, you will live forever. Eternal life is true to you by faith in Jesus. When you do sleep, it’ll be true to you by sight! Be merry! You are going to live forever! Merry Lent!
