A local band “THE SENIOR MOMENTS” is looking for some help!
The band performs on a volunteer basis for various Sun City organizations and at retirement homes and similar venues, presenting a one-hour variety show.  The sound and related equipment (mic stands, speakers, PA, etc) has become burdensome to lift and move.  They are looking for help loading and unloading their equipment for “gigs.” Benefits to student "roadies" include helping to provide free entertainment to other seniors as well as being involved in producing and presenting events. (These are eligible for Community Crusade service hours, too.) Volunteers will be provided a modest tip to cover gas money.   The Show dates and times are ongoing with the first show scheduled for March 14, 2020.  They are hoping to have a pool of individuals from which to contact as events are scheduled.   Please contact Stephen Yohay by cell:  703.407.3003 or by email:  scyohay@gmail.com if you are interested.

DEVOTIONAL
Today’s Reading: Hebrews 4:14-16
And so let us draw near with boldness to the throne of grace so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)
Merry Lent! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. God is a God of grace and mercy. He gives His unmerited favor to sinners in Jesus. He doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve, and harbor anger forever. He is merciful, slow to anger, and keeps His promises. (Psalm 103:8, 10)
Jesus is the mercy and grace of God. He lives it. He breathes it when He breathes His last. He saves us from our sins, from death, from the power of the devil. He rescues us from us!
He suffered for our idolatry, love of money, and the taking of His Name in vain. He was beaten for our despising of His Word, skipping church, dishonoring our parents, hatred, abortions, not helping our neighbors. He was mocked for our lust, adultery, fornication, and our internet browser histories. He died for our cutting corners, cheating, gossiping, lying, and coveting everything in sight. He was crucified for our sins and raised for our justification, our forgiveness, before God.
Jesus knows our sins because He was tempted by every sin like we are. We sin: He didn’t. But for sinners, the spotless Lamb went into the holiest place. He is our High Priest. We are those for whom He showed grace and mercy. For us, He died. For us, He rose. For us, He lives. We died with Him in the waters of our Baptism. We rose with Him in the Word connected with the water. We live with Him by faith in His Calvary-sacrifice for us. As surely as He rose from the dead, we will rise, too.
So we boldly approach the throne of God, having been given grace and mercy in Jesus. The One on the throne isn’t some merciless judge. He’s our advocate, our High Priest, our Savior, our brother, our Lord Jesus Christ. We pray to the God who gave up His Son for us, confident that despite our sins, failures, and iniquities, God will hear our prayers and answer. He will save. Merry Lent! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. –Rev. George Borghardt
O Lord God, You led Your ancient people through the wilderness and brought them to the promised land. Guide the people of Your Church that following our Savior we may walk through the wilderness of this world toward the glory of the world to come; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. (Collect for First Sunday in Lent)
