Sunflowers will be for sale in the front office all this week. They are grown in the greenhouse and proceeds benefit the Mark 10:14 program.

2020-2021 High School Cheer Tryouts
The tryout registration is now available for all current 8th-11th graders. Please fill out this form and more information will be sent to you by March 16th.
In addition, there are two camps coming up to help you prepare for tryouts. You can register for these camps on Faith's website under athletic camps.

For a senior honors institute project, Ethan Schwartz and Daniel Nicastro will be conducting a guy’s devotional at Calico Basin inside Red Rock Canyon . It is open to any high school guy (2020-2023). We’ll be talking about what it means to be a Man of God. The date is March 7, 2020, from1:00-3:00pm. Description of the Event: Get together for clients and their families from Opportunity Village.
The picnic will include games, food, photo booth, and a live DJ
Time student volunteers would be needed: 10:30am - 2:30pm
What volunteers will do: Assisting with set up, helping disabled participate in games, & clean up.

COMMUNITY CRUSADER SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
It's that time of year again: the As They Grow Consignment Sales are back! We need LOTS of volunteers willing to represent Baby's Bounty throughout each sale weekend. The Season Opener will be March 13th~15th; while the Season Finale will be held the weekend of May 15th~17th. Regardless of which event you choose, you will undoubtedly be asked to fold clothing, assist customers, put items away, etc. Both events will be held at 4500 N. Rancho Dr. (near the intersection of N. Rancho & W. Craig.) Below are the days and shifts available (you may choose as many as you'd like!):

COMMUNITY CRUSADER SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
We are coming up on our Power of Love gala and are in need of some helpful hands to stuff goodie bags for the event! This is Keep Memory Alive’s largest and most exclusive event, and all of the proceeds from this exciting evening go directly back to Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in downtown Las Vegas.
Below is some information that you will find helpful for Wednesday, March 4.

Online Health Sign-up for High School Students
If you are in need of completing your high school health credit, the Spring 2 session of online Health begins March 16. If you would like to be enrolled in this class, you must fill out this FORMby March 1. You will be charged an extra $350 on your tuition bill for this class unless you are taking a study hall, early dismissal or late arrival in your 2019-2020 schedule. If you took Health in 8th grade here at Faith or have taken Health at Las Vegas Day School, Adelson, Cornerstone, Alexander Dawson, Lake Mead Christian Academy or The Meadows in 7th or 8th grade, your high school Health requirement is already complete and you do not need this class. MOST PREP SAT CLASS
Faith Lutheran is proud to announce a new SAT preparation partnership with the founder and president of MostPrep, Mike Obstgarten. He will be running 6-week prep courses at 6:45 to 9:15pm in room 216 for juniors and seniors specifically for the SAT starting this summer for $600. Students interested in prepping for the ACT should still take this course as the exams are now similar enough that specific ACT courses are not necessary. This full-length course provides ample instruction and review of the concepts most frequently tested on the SAT, as well as the coaching and implementation of the test-taking techniques that have been proven to work, all while dispelling common myths and reassuring students that the task in front of them is not as daunting as it might seem. To sign up please fill out the form at this link a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the start of the class you are interested in. DEVOTIONAL
Today’s Reading: 1 Samuel 16:1-13
Daily Lectionary: Job 20:1-23, 29; John 8:21-38
For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7)
In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. The Lord always seems to work in opposites. What we think is best for us usually is not. We don’t see things the same way the Lord does. Not only do we see things differently, but we are also quick to turn perceptions based on appearances into judgments. Thankfully, God does not operate this way. To Him, our appearance neither defines us nor dictates our value.
The Lord sends Samuel to Bethlehem to anoint a king from Jesse’s sons. Based on appearance, it is likely that Jesse’s older sons would have been prime candidates for king. One by one, Jesse’s sons pass before Samuel but God rejects them all.
Samuel and Jesse were both likely baffled. These sons looked the part! Samuel admits to being afraid. But the Lord explains to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). As Jesus was on trial He was mocked and soldiers beat Him and hailed Him as “King of the Jews.” Pilate would put the same inscription over Jesus’ Cross as He was dying. Isaiah says that Jesus “was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces” (Isaiah 53:4). To the world Jesus has no attractive qualities to cause us to claim Him as king. “But the Lord sees not as man sees.” The Father sees Jesus’ heart and finds favor in Him as the King of the Universe. That same heart was pierced for you and your salvation, so that you now may be declared holy, innocent, righteous, and yes, even beautiful through the forgiveness of all your sins.
