Crusaders Win 2nd Half - Come up a Basket Short Overall as Bears Win 15-13

In what was the best performance of the season for the B Team, great progress was made, the team had its highest scoring output of the season, every girl took a shot, and six of the girls soored.  Fun to watch the progress of this octet and we know more good things are coming.
Carrying things over from an excellent showing at practice the prior day, Alexis and Lisa both earned starts today and had great games. The first quarter saw the Crusaders fall behind by three points, trailing by three points after six minutes. Lisa had a nice drive to the basket & drew a foul, Katelyn split the defense (for the first of many times today) to also get up a nice shot. Lauryn made a nice hustle play in the first stanza as well.

The second quarter was even. Faith controlled the play but just could not get any shots to fall, which happens sometimes in this sport. Dawson got the first basket to take a 5-0 lead but Faith didnt let the score get them down, as the team continued to work hard and fight. The one basket we did get was the result of TEAM hustle and determination, as it was a loose ball after a rebound that three Crusaders chased down after the ball went off the head of a Bears player. Kali'a grabbed it, got it to Vari, and she hit a wide open Lisa, who HIT THE BOX :-) and made the layup. Hana had a couple of nice rebounds in this period and drew a foul - and the fire that Hana played with in this contest was great to see. As a result of this tied 2nd quarter Dawson led 5-2 at the break.

The third quarter was Faith's best quarter of the season so far, hands down. Vari had a coast to coast drive through the entire Dawson defense, drawing a foul on the shot and splitting the two free throws. Hana had a hustle steal, Katelyn made two nice drives, and hit a jumper after the second one, and Alexis grabbed two rebounds, the second one resulting in a putback basket to tie the score. The smile on her face was AWESOME!!!  The bad news of the 3rd quarter was that Grace landed awkwardly on her knee trying to get a rebound,  and had to be helped off the court.  Amid this excellent offense, Faith only allowed one basket, and it was 7-7 after 18 minutes.

Dawson took a 9-7 lead but a running jumper from Katelyn tied the score at nine soon afterwards. Dawson then extended the lead to 13-9 but Faith again dug in, pulling to 13-11 on a Kali's elbow jumper that came after some perfect defense. Grace came back into the game to a loud ovation, and played some great defense the rest of the way, showing great heart and grit. Dawson extended it to 15-11 on a nice jumper but Faith still kept at it, getting a basket from Lauryn with less than ten seconds left to cut it to 15-13.  Lauryn almost had a steal off the resulting inbounds pass, but Dawson was able to get it in, and run out the clock.

The final score wasnt what the girls were hoping for, but they KNEW they had played well, and they are excited for a day of practice and a chance to get back on the court again on Friday against The Meadows. The team can certainly build on the fact that they won the second half by an 11-10 tally, and after starting off the game down 5-0 after seven minutes outscored the Bears 13-10 in the final 17 minutes of play.   Today was a good day!

Go Faith!!!
