COMMUNITY CRUSADER SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
Healing Hearts Giving Hope is a bereavement support group for parents who have lost a baby at birth or shortly thereafter. Family and friends of the parents who have suffered a loss usually attend the event with the parents.   This is Las Vegas' 28th annual Walk.  The Walk to Remember is a national Walk which is held in several cities throughout the month of October across the United States.  Healing Hearts Giving Hope is a non-profit organization under IRS code 501(c)3. This year the Walk to Remember is from 11 am to 1:30 pm on Saturday, October 6.   The event is held at the Children's Memorial Park located at 6601 W Gowan Road.  Set up will start at 9:30 am for the following:
  • Fill 150 balloons with helium
  • Set up canopies
  • Set up tables - we will have 14 tables to be set up and plastic table cloths taped to them
  • Unpack storage bins full of craft supplies and place on the tables
  • Hang quilts on the cyclone fence (each year a new quilt is made and each family decorates a square for their baby) We bring out all of the previous year quilts as well to display on the fence
  • Face painting for the kids
  • Help the kids with decorating their small pumpkin with adhesive pumpkin decorating craft kits
  • Cut long pieces of ribbon and tie it to limbs on our "memorial" tree
  • Accept silent auction items from families as they arrive and complete a form with description of item, value, and donor's name.
  • Greet the families at the greeting table and ask them to sign our guest book.  We use those addresses in the guest book for the Walk invitation mail out each year.
  • We have two piñatas filled with candy; one is for the children age 6 and under and the other is for the older ones.  The piñatas are tied to a tree branch and the kids line up for a chance to take a swing at the piñata. There will be goodie bags which will need to be passed out to the kids for their candy from the piñatas.
We know some students can't stay for the entire event.  We totally understand their schedules may only allow set up or tear down which is fine - set up from 9:30 am to 11 am and tear down from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm.  If some would like to stay for the whole event there will be plenty of food so they can feel free to help themselves.  For those students who would like to work with the kids and their activities it will be from 11:00 am - 1:30 pm.   We really need help with the kids and their activities so we can keep them occupied with the planned activities.
We are always so thankful for the students' assistance.  The students may contact me at this email or by cell phone, 702.845.6526. (10/6)

Apple announced the next operating system for your MacBook Air.It is called Mojave. Please do not install this version at this time. We have found that printing is broken when you do. I am sure Canon will work on a fix after it is released, but until that time PLEASE DO NOT UPGRADE TO MOJAVE. If you do and break printing, the only option we have left is to re-image your machine and you may lose photos and documents. We will post when it is O.K. to upgrade.
If you have not upgraded to High Sierra, now is the time to do that. High Sierra will prepare your system for what Mojave will introduce. If you have any questions, please contact tech support at techsupport@flhsemail.org.

DEVOTIONAL
Bearing Fruit and Sharing Fruit
Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. Matthew 7:20
When we speak about ‘the fruit of the Spirit’, we are talking about these nine qualities of character: ‘love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control’ (Galatians 5:22-23). These fruits are not for ‘show’, they are for sharing with others; otherwise they’re no better than fruit that was never grown in the first place. Suppose you drive up to a roadside produce market with your heart set on buying fresh vegetables. You see home-grown tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, and several varieties of peppers – everything you need and more. Just as you start to select your items, the farmer who owns the stand says, ‘Sorry, this produce isn’t for sale. I just like to grow it and enjoy looking at it until it rots. Then I throw it away.’ Huh? Ever see an Apple tree eat its own apples? Now you likely haven’t encountered such an absurd situation, and probably never will. That’s because farmers and customers know that produce is for consuming. Sure, it’s beautiful to look at, but its God-ordained purpose is to bring nutrition and health to people. If all we do is go to church and preach about fruit, analyze fruit, and examine each other’s fruit, we are failing miserably. It’s not enough to bear fruit, we must share that fruit with others so they can be blessed and impacted by the kingdom of God. Paul writes, ‘For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago’ (Ephesians 2:10). Bearing fruit and sharing fruit are two sides of the same spiritual coin.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me use Your fruit of the Spirit in serving others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
