COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
The Nevada affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is looking for Race Volunteers for the upcoming race at the Fremont Street Experience Saturday, May 6, 2017. There are multiple areas where help is needed including set up, tear down, registration, kid’s area, and sponsor booths. There are Race Day Volunteer Orientations on Saturday, April 29th from 10am - 12pm OR Monday, May 1 from 6pm – 8pm. Please email volunteers@komennevada.orgwith questions. Register to volunteer at

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
Summer Meet Up & Eat Up Program (July 3rd – August 11th)— Boys Town Nevada in partnership with Three Square Food Bank will provide lunch over the summer break to the youth served by our Care Coordination Schools program. Volunteers are needed to welcome the youth, distribute lunch, assist with monitoring the youth and clean-up. Schedule: Monday - Friday 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Available Spots: 3-6 volunteers needed daily. In an effort to encourage strong values of philanthropy and community involvement among our student body, the Faith Lutheran HS Student Leadership Team (SLT) along with the MS Student Council will select 5 charities per academic year that will receive school-wide support. Each charity will be assigned a month (Sept, Oct, Nov/Dec, Jan/Feb, Mar/Apr & May) where the Faith Family will be encouraged to contribute to fundraising or collection efforts solicited for that month’s charity.
High school students who would like to submit an application for consideration to support a charitable organization during the 2017-18 academic year, please contact Mrs. Buuck for an application at buuckj@flhsemail.org. Applications can also be found outside of Mrs. Buuck's Office (Office of Student Life) in the aux gym near room 501. In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to dojust that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. Lord of the Cosmos
He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together (v.17).
As you read this, the moon is circling the earth at 2,300 miles per hour. Even at that speed, it will take it nearly a month to make a full rotation. Meanwhile, despite circling the sun at 66,000 miles per hour, the earth will take a whole year to make one orbit. And our sun is just one of 200 million other suns spinning around the Milky Way at 483,000 miles per hour—a speed which necessitates 225 million years to circle around once. And the Milky Way is but one of 100 billion other galaxies shooting through space at over 1 million miles an hour. The universe is immense!
In Scripture, the vastness of the universe is said to reflect God’s own grandeur. It is He who stretched out the stars of heaven, covered the earth with the seas, and made the mountains rise (Psalm 104:1-9). “Through everything God made,” Paul says, “[we] can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature” (Romans 1:20). Modern telescopes help us see God’s power and divinity—not just in our earth and sky, but in faraway galaxies too.
Paul knew nothing of the universe being 100 billion galaxies large, but consider these inspired words he wrote about Jesus. “He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see” (Colossians 1:16)—including not only “kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world,” but everything in the cosmos. All those luminous galaxies were made by and for the divine Creator Jesus, and He holds them all together in His hands (v.17).
This is mind-boggling! The One who walked this earth two millennia ago is the same One who keeps the galaxies spinning like carousels. Jesus isn’t just the Lord of you or me. He’s the Lord of the cosmos. —Sheridan Voysey
