Operation Christmas Child
The charity of the month for November is Operation Christmas Child. Please pick up a box, select the gender and age group for your "child," and fill up the box with goodies that your child will enjoy. Then bring the box back by November 16. There are three dop-off locations: 1. The Library, 2. Mrs. Walo's room, Rm. 318, and 3. Dr. Nuoffer's room, P61. You may also use a shoebox and wrap it up with Christmas wrapping paper. If you do this, please wrap the lid separate from the box, and make sure you pick up the label from the library to select the gender and age group of your child. COMMUNITY CRUSADER SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
Miracle League - an opportunity for those with disabilities to play baseball.
Our League is not possible without our volunteers. One of our most valuable volunteers is our Buddy. The Buddy assists the players in playing their game. Players are paired with a “Buddy”, the Buddy is then with the player the entire game.Volunteers needed every Saturday 8:45 am-noon OR 11:45-3 until the middle of November. Volunteer for one Saturday or all of them.

Attention 8th-11th graders! Would you like to visit the amazing Inca ruins of Machu Picchu? Sail to an island on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake? Explore Lima, the historic capital of Peru? Or walk the streets of Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas? Then join Ms. Gieseke and Mr. Crowder on a trip to Peru during spring break 2018 (March 29-April 7, 2018). We know it is a long way off, but start thinking about it NOW. If you have any questions or need further information, please talk to or email Ms. Gieseke or Mr. Crowder. Stay tuned for more information! (6/25)
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to do just that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate SAT course on campus, which includes 30 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course starts with a practice test on Dec. 3 and runs mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 PM through Nov. 30 leading up to the December 3 SAT. DEVOTIONAL
Everlasting Love
READ:
I have loved you . . . with an everlasting love (v.3).
A friend died unexpectedly, leaving behind his wife and several children. I talked with his widow (also a dear friend) just a few days after his death. She was heartbroken, but also amazed that God had already used her husband’s death to inspire two individuals to receive salvation in Jesus. She then explained that she had gathered her children together and said something like this: “It’s okay to be angry and to express your emotions to God, but please don’t let this affect your faith in Him. How tragic would it be if you turned away from God even as these people turned to Him?”
Although she was in grief and pain, she was clinging to God and His everlasting love.
Jeremiah and the people of Judah also knew pain and heartache. They had come under the oppression of Babylonia and were torn away from their homeland. Defeat and destruction had led to grief and hopelessness. But God gave the prophet some words of hope: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself” (Jeremiah 31:3). He went on to explain that one day He would rebuild the nation, gardens would again flourish in the land, and happiness and dancing would once again be enjoyed by the people (vv.4-7). In essence he was saying, “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Psalm 30:5).
My friend’s wife could express wise words of hope to her children because she knew she could trust in the love and provision of God. His “good gifts” would remain (Jeremiah 31:14). And even though she was experiencing fear and the sting of grief, she could rest in the arms of the One who said to His people, “I will turn their mourning into joy” (v.13).
