FALL ONLINE HEALTH CLASS
If you are in need of completing your high school health credit, the Fall 2 session of online Health begins October 24. If you would like to be enrolled in this class, you must fill out the form at this link by Friday October 14 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?fromEmail=true&formkey=dEJZNUFJWENFaTBlYW83cHBnNzdxcmc6MQ. You will be charged an extra $350 on your tuition bill for this class if it will be your 9th class of 2016-2017. The class is free if you have an early dismissal, late arrival or study hall in your schedule. If you took Health in 8th grade at Faith or have taken Health at Las Vegas Day School, Alexander Dawson, Adelson or The Meadows in 8th grade, your high school Health requirement is already complete. CRUSADER SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
The 6th Annual Teddy Bear 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk benefiting the United Healthcare Children's Foundation will be held Saturday morning on October 22 at Tivoli Village in Summerlin. Ways to Serve for Mission Encounter (October 20 - October 23)
A free interactive exhibit where guests can encounter 3 other cultures without leaving theirs. We are looking for various positions/days/times for people to serve so guests can learn more about life in Cambodia, Dominican Republic and Liberia.
Positions Needed:
- 1. Registration
- 2. General
- 3. Role-Player
- 4. Tour Guide (10-minute story needs to be memorized)
- 5. Setup and Teardown prior to and after the event

Nevada Child Seekers - Oct 1st – Nascar – Kids Zone
Nevada Child Seekers volunteers will arrive two hours before the start of the Show and Shine event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Volunteers need to check in at the Nevada Child Seekers booth. Volunteers will help set up booth, greet attendees and help coordinate the game and prizes at our booth.

Attention 8th-11th graders! Would you like to visit the amazing Inca ruins of Machu Picchu? Sail to an island on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake? Explore Lima, the historic capital of Peru? Or walk the streets of Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas? Then join Ms. Gieseke and Mr. Crowder on a trip to Peru during spring break 2018 (March 29-April 7, 2018). We know it is a long way off, but start thinking about it NOW. The first informational meeting is Thursday, September 15th, at 6:30 p.m. in the library. If you have any questions or need further information, please talk to or email Ms. Gieseke or Mr. Crowder. In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to do just that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. The first informational meeting for the members will be sometime next week. More information on that meeting to come. 6/2
All School Testing Day October 19
October 19 will be a minimum day and all students in grades 6-11 will be taking standardized tests on campus. All seniors have the day off that day. 6th and 7th graders will be taking the ACT Aspire Exam, which is a pre-ACT written specifically for each grade level, and they will be excused at approximately 2:00PM. Students in grades 8-11 will be taking the PSAT written specifically for their grade level. Juniors taking the PSAT are eligible for a National Merit Scholar designation if they score in the top 2% nationally on the exam. All other grade levels of that exam are simply practice for the junior year. 8th graders will be excused at approximately 11:45AM and 9th-11th grade will be excused at approximately 11:15AM. Please use the normal after school designated pick-up areas. Students should get a good night's sleep the night before, have a good breakfast that morning and come prepared with #2 pencils, a 4-function calculator, water and a healthy snack to eat during the break. In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate SAT course on campus, which includes 30 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course starts with a practice test on Oct. 15 and runs mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 PM through Nov. 30 leading up to the December 3 SAT. FALL FESTIVAL MIDDLE SCHOOL BACK TO SCHOOL PARTY!!!!!!
Join us for our Faith Lutheran Fall Festival for FLMS students and their families on Friday, October 7 from 5-7pm. This event is put on by our MS STUCO and will have carnival games, food, photo booths, dunking for apples, face painting and BIG PRIZES! All proceeds will go toward “Souled Out” youth concerts and fun events throughout the year. Forms are available in the front office. (10/6)

Everything Matters

At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen (v.22).
So many of us struggle to feel that our work—the ways we spend the majority of our time and the way we pay our bills—has lasting spiritual value. This is remarkable, given how often Scripture insists that everything we do matters to God.
Poet and novelist Wendell Berry offers a good word here: “If we think of ourselves as living souls, immortal creatures, living in the midst of a Creation that is mostly mysterious, and if we see that everything we make or do cannot help but have an everlasting significance for ourselves, for others, and for the world, then we can see why some religious teachers have understood works as a form of prayer.”
Isaiah 60 provides one of the many pictures of the new kind of world God has in mind. Here, flowing into the New Jerusalem, we find all the things that God will use as part of this new redeemed place, flourishing under the goodness of God:
•Kingdoms (v.3)—our politics and governments and ways of ordering human societies in justice.
•Wealth (v.5)—all we own, how we provide for our families.
• Camels, flocks, and rams (vv.6-7)—the creatures we watch over.
• Gold and frankincense (v.6)—every natural resource.
• Ships (v.9)—the things we’ve built.
• Cypress and pine, silver and gold (vv.13,17)—all the materials craftsmen and artists use to make beautiful and useful objects.
• Every ethnic group (vv.3,10,16)—our cultures, our history, our stories, our families, our sense of self.
In God’s vision for the world, everything matters. Your work matters. Your unique passions and gifts matter. Surrendered to God, even those things that might seem ordinary or mundane participate in the new world God will create. —Winn Collier
