Crusaders Finish Season in 4th Place in the RRAC - Congratulations!

When the process of filling the Faith Middle School 6th grade basketball teams started, it did not look like there would be enough players to field both and A and a B Team. Many efforts were made to made to make it happen, but it just didnt look like we were going to be able to make it happen. However, then we had two young ladies decide to give it a try, and we were proud to say that we would again be able to have both an A Team and a B Team this year.

That was the good news. The challenge was that for ALMOST ALL of the B Team roster, this was the first time playing organized basketball, and now they would be competing in the Red Rock Athletic Conference, a league with traditionally some very good teams.  The team took to the challenge with a great attitude, and new Coach Angel Walsh was perfect for them, teaching them the game, the principle and value of teamwork, and the joys of skill development. There were some ups and downs as the season went along, and the games against Dawson were just great to watch.

The team was absolutely playing its best ball down the stretch, as they helped the A Team defeat a co-ed New Horizons team (B Team members played a lot of minutes in that one, and scored six points in a game that was won by four points - an absolutely crtitical contribution!) and then defeated Mountain View Christian. Theyl also played great defense in the Crusader Clash, holding the A Team to 26 points, notable since the A Team has scored at least 30 in each of its last five games except for that one.

The team took part in ten games, winning two of the last three they played in, and for those efforts they EARNED 4th place in the Red Rock Conference. That is a great accomplishment for kids that were just starting in the game two months ago, and they are only the 2nd Faith 6th Grade Girls B team to place in the Top 4 in the league in the last five years!

We are very proud of them for that outcome, and for the way they played, sharing the ball and being very happy when teammates scored. The proof is in the final numbers, as all eight players contributed and the top scorer was separated from the bottom scorer by only six points. It was a great, great season and we are all very proud of them.

There is not a trophy or a plaque for 4th place, but the A Team wanted to present this group with some reward, so the A Team players made signs for the B Team today, congratulating them on a great season.

GO FAITH!!!!
