Defenses Dominate - Scorpions Prevail

In what was a fun atmosphere at Las Vegas Day School, with the Pep Band in attendance and a gret crowd.  With two excellent defensive teams that had just played a few days ago, defenses dominated, and in the end LVDS got a one point win in what was the Red Rock Athletic Conference opener for Faith.
Seven days ago, these two teams met and after an intense 24 minutes of excellent defense and timely offense, the Crusaders managed to post an 8-7 win.  This time around it was again a defensive battle, even moreso than the first meeting, and in fact it was scoreless in the first quarter.  Isabella R did quite well in her defensive assignment in the first.

The second stanza saw some excellent work from both Marin and Isabella M, the former running the offense very well and the latter playing some very sound defense.  Faith had some opportunities but could not get anything to fall, while LVDS split a pair of free throws to take a 1-0 led at the break.

The defense in the third quarter was spectacular for both teams, but Faith did manage to sneak in a basket by Evie to take a 2-1 after 18 minutes. Abby and Kayleigh - stepping up to a spot she had not played before - played defense extremely well in this third quarter, Shay also played some great defense in this stanza as well, along with making a couple of nice passes.  Tai's shot was not falling, but she kept up her defensive intensity and showed great leadership as well.

With three points scored in the first 18 minutes, the two teams scoring three in the fourth quarter could be considered an offensive "explosion."  Faith got thier point on a steal by Riley, who was fouled on the shot attempt and split her free throws to give Faith a 3-1 lead.  Day School made a free throw to cut it to 3-2, and then with less than 40 seconds left converted on an perfectly executed inbounds play to get a short jumper to fall - taking a 4-3 lead.

Faith had some chances late, but the lid stayed on the basket and we just could not get a shot to fall despite some good looks late, and the Scorpions held on for a hard earned and well deserved win.  Congrats to the LVDS team.

With this result, the Crusaders fall to 3-1 on the season overall, and 0-1 in RRAC play. We get back to action on Friday vs Founders Academy before getting back to RRAC play with a contest vs The Meadows next Monday.

Go Crusaders!
