Crusaders Prevail in Defensive Struggle, defeat LVDS 8-7

Both programs stress defense, and did it very well today, so a low scoring contest was not entirely unexpected.  Faith fought back from an early deficit to gain a 4th quarter lead and then held off a Scorpion rally to eek out an 8-7 win.

Las Vegas Day School controlled the scoring in the first quarter, getting on board first with a free throw and then making a shot from the inside to take a 3-0 lead after the opening six minutes. The Scorpions extended the lead to 5-1 after two minutes of the second stanza before Faith scored the final three points of the frame to close the gap to 5-4 at the half.

The Faith points came from Karly at the free throw line while Tai added a charity stripe toss as well, and hit a jumper.  Kayleigh did some great work on the boards, Shay made two just excellent passes, and Abby was again very active all over the floor.  The team did well to gather themselves after an early deficit and keep things close going into half.

The only points of the third quarter came courtesy of a steal, a pass and a finishing layup by Karly and gave Faith its first lead of the game, 6-5. Marin did a nice job directing the offense for some open looks, and Evie chipped in with some good rebounding.  Riley, despite suffering an injury in the 2nd quarter, played with a great deal of energy in the third and did well. Isabella Ramsey made very good decisions with the ball and got her teammates open looks. Faith led 6-5 after 18 minutes and extended that lead to 8-5 with a little more than four minutes left in the game, as Karly added another basket, a 14 foot floater from Karly that tickled the twine with a swish!

Both teams defended very well the rest of the way, and the only basket was a nice jumper from a Scorpion to make it 8-7 with just over a minute to play. That set up a frantic final minute with several possession changes, but Faith stayed stout defensively and smart offensiively, and after forcing a Scorpion miss with about ten seconds to go, moved the ball well and ran out the clock to account for the 8-7, hard fought win.

The team's game that was scheduled for Friday has had to be rescheduled, so the team is back in action next week. Enjoy a "Super" weekend!

Go Crusaders!
