Faith Lutheran High School Student Council is excited to present Homecoming: Down the Rabbit Hole! Homecoming Week will include fun dress up days (stay tuned for details!), a Powderpuff competition, the grade vs grade Lip Sync Competition, a football game, King and Queen Coronation, and of course a Homecoming Dance :)

PLEASE NOTE: Photos of ID Badges’s or Crusader Connect contact pages will no longer be accepted for entrance to after school events or Seniors, leaving for lunch. If you do not have an ID badge, please visit IT in the library to have a temporary one made or to have a copy of your existing ID created. Per the CCSD, Middle and High School students may not bring guests to after school events hosted by Faith Lutheran who are not enrolled in Faith Lutheran per district regulation 5135.4. (This is a district-wide policy that we are following.) Additionally, Middle school students attending high school events cannot attend without their parents. (9/29)

Israel 2024! Students, we will be having an informational meeting for you and your parents on Wednesday, September 20th, and Thursday, September 21st, at 7:00 p.m., in portable 67. You
only have to come to one of the meetings. The deadline for trip registration is November 1st. Science National Honor Society
This APPLICATION is for 10th-12th graders interested in joining SNHS. SNHS is an organization for students who excel in the sciences to join together, recognize their abilities, and to serve others with their talents. The members are given special opportunities and also run a Math/Science tutoring service after school Mondays-Thursdays for all FLMSHS students. To be eligible for SNHS membership, students must be available to tutor at least one day a week during two out of the three sports seasons, have a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 3.5 and a weighted GPA of at least 3.75 in the sciences. Deadline to apply is Wednesday, September 13. You do NOT need to reapply if you were in SNHS last year and met your 20 hour requirement.(9/13)

GRANDPARENTS DAY!
Monday, September 11 is Grandparents Day
The Faculty and Staff parking lot off Hualapai, east of the gym will be saved for grandparents to park as well as the parking between the Arena and football field. PLEASE allow yourself some extra time since you may have to park farther away than normal. We appreciate your help with this inconvenience and promise it is just one day a year.(9/11)

As the new school year has begun, we are in full swing for trip sign-ups for this year's two international ACIS trips. Our Spring Break Trip is a Tour of Japan and will be led by Mr. Klenz. Our Summer Trip is to France and Switzerland and will be led by Ms. Gieseke. Students can sign up for one or both trips. NEW NIAA PHYSICAL FORMS INFORMATION effective 4/1/23
A new physical required every 12 months.
--The new Pre-Participation form consists of three pages, HEALTH HISTORY FORM, PHYSICAL EXAMINATION FORM & MEDICAL ELIGIBILITY FORM
--Pages 1 and 2, the Health History Form & Physical Examination Form must remain on file with the student’s medical provider. DO NOT upload these forms into Aktivate or turn them into Faith Lutheran.
**Parents are required to upload page 3, Medical Eligibility Form to Aktivate for approval.**
--Physicals EXPIRE 12 months from the date of previous physical.
--If your athlete’s physical expires before or during their season, they will not be allowed to try out for a team. Example: Your child is trying out for a fall sport, your previously completed physical was done on
11/10/22. The physical is expired as of 11/10/23. It will not be valid for the 2023/2024 Fall season since it expires during the Fall season. A new physical must be obtained before the season in order for your athlete to tryout for
their Fall sport.

VEX Robotics club We will have our first meeting for the Middle School VEX Robotics club on Friday, Sept. 15th. I will introduce myself and Mr. Kober (HS Robotics Teacher) as well as address meeting times, expectations, and goals during the meeting.

The National Junior Art Honor Society meets on Monday Sept. 11th in room 101 from 3:15- 4:45PM. We are accepting new member applications from 6-8th grade students through Sept. 15th. Members are required to have a B average, attend 12 full meetings by the end of March, and earn 9 art activity or service points. Membership fee is $20 annually. Attend the meeting or reach out to the advisor, Ms. Gilman (gilmank@flhsemail.org) before Sept. 15th to get a permission for sent to your parent or guardian.(9/11)

Play Details
Two narrators and several actors attempt to combine all 209 stories ranging from classics like Snow White, Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel to more bizarre, obscure stories like Faithful Johannes. This is a wild, free-form comedy with lots of madcap fun.
LEGO Club is starting up again and is looking for new members. We meet in room 502 in the AUX Gym every Tuesday from 3:30-4:30pm starting on Tuesday August 29. If you enjoy digging through bins of random LEGO pieces and using your imagination to create whatever you can come up with, this club is for you!(9/30)
7th and 8th Grade Working Lunch
7th and 8th grade working lunch will begin the month of September starting on the 6th and will continue every Monday and Wednesday. This is a time to work on school work or study for a test, etc.
If you would like to attend a working lunch, you must fill out this form the morning of and bring your own lunch. Students will come to room 501 with their lunch and will stay the entire lunch period. Working lunch is limited to 25 students.
A trip to Southern California is planned for Wednesday, February 14th to Sunday the 18th. The cost is only $1200/student which includes everything but your lunches and spending money. The flyer is attached. See Ms Beyer or Mrs. Grant for more information. Southern Cal Trip and itinerary

DEVOTIONS
September 11, 2023
Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 33:1-10

How then can we live? (Ezekiel 33:10)
In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. When we observe the nature of the world, the sins of people against us, and our sins against others, it is easy to become pessimistic and cynical. We can identify all sorts of problems in the world, but we do not seem to be able to solve any of them. We recognize the symptoms of the problem in violence, hatred, injustice, division, and a lack of care for anyone but ourselves.
The people of Israel did not have the technology to spread their sin, as we do, but they had the same sins. In Ezekiel 24, when God tells Ezekiel to declare to Jerusalem that the king of Babylon has laid siege to the city, God calls Jerusalem “the city of blood” (24:6, 7, 9). This is a repetition of the charge in chapter 22: “You shall say [to the people of Jerusalem], Thus says the Lord Yahweh: …You have become guilty by the blood you have shed, and defiled by the idols that you have made. … Father and mother are treated with contempt in you; the sojourner suffers extortion in your midst; the fatherless and the widow are wronged in you,” among many other things (Ezekiel 22:3, 4, 7ff.).
To a greater or lesser degree, all Jerusalem’s sins are still present in our world. Ezekiel was sent by God to declare the people’s sins, just as God still sends preachers of His Word to declare His Law. When God’s Law brings to our attention the depth of our sin and idolatry and corruption, we might well say with the people, “Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we rot away because of them. How then can we live” (Ezekiel 33:10)? God says, “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his ways and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel” (33:11)?
Sin and rebellion against our Creator, who is our life, makes no sense. Why would we turn from Him and die? But that is what sinners, left to themselves, will always do. So God finally breaks the stalemate between His desire and sinners’ actions. He sends Jesus to become the wicked one and take all the world’s wickedness upon Himself, though it does not belong to Him. He fulfills Ezekiel’s vision and not only warns us of our impending death, but becomes our death. How then can we live? In Christ, crucified and risen; who gives Himself to us in Holy Baptism, Holy Absolution, and the Holy Supper. This is how we live. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, You desire not the death of a sinner, but rather that we turn from our evil ways and live. Graciously spare us those punishments which we by our sins have deserved, and grant us always to serve You in holiness and pureness of living; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
