Crusaders Finish Week With Road Win vs The Meadows

In our first league road game, the Crusaders came away with a 24 point win. After the game, someone mentioned 24 was Kobe's number...RIP Mamba and Gianna.
Playing our third game in three days, and with Meadows playing some very solid defense, Faith got off to a bit of a slow start, but midway through the first period Neveah got things going with some strong drives to the basket to draw fouls, as well as a couple of jumpers. She scored seven first period points, while Dena added a hoop off an EXCELLENT screen from Annika, and Mia B grabbed a rebound, went up with it, and got fouled.  The first three throw bounced high off the rim and fell in, giving Mia her first points of the season!!  Smiling ear to ear, she drained the second free throw, nothing but net.  The Crusaders led 11-2 at the break.

Faith added ten 2nd stanza points, with Portlynn, Annika and Neveah doing the scoring. Skylar was a BEAST on the boards, getting half of her team high NINE caroms in the second quarter. Mia W fought through some foul trouble and contributed a nice assist in the second stanza. Faith led 21-3 after the first twelve minutes.

Danielle got knicked up a bit in the first quarter and rested the remainder of the half, but asked to go back in the game in the third quarter, and did a great job playing a defense we had never practiced before. Super proud of her effort today, as she always contributes, even when the shots are not falling. Addison got on the scoreboard in the third quarter, as did Annika, who had three steals on the night as well. One highlight that sadly did not lead to a basket was Ariana boxing out perfectly to get an offensive rebound, and while the putback rolled around the rim and out, it was still a really nice play on her part. It was 27-3 after three quarters.

To thier credit, Meadows kept coming, and in fact they scored eight 4th quarter points, most coming as a result of excellent interior passing that led to layups. When these two teams met just three days ago it was our fourth game of the season and just the first for the Mustangs, and having that experience helped us alot. Congrats to thier coaching staff and thier players for making a great deal of progress and showing huge improvement, and we wish Meadows good luck in the rest of thier season.

Remember that Mia B scored the first points of her season in the 1st quarter? Well, she liked that feeling so much that in the 4th quarter she got a pass from Addison and launched a top of the circle trey...THAT WENT IN!!!  Our crowd went wild, and it was a great moment.   Shooters will sometimes be "feeling it" and Mia took a "heat check" three pointer on the next trip down the floor, but that one rimmed out.  Still, today was a great game for Mia, and a payoff for all of the hard work she has been putting in.  Sabrina took a couple of shots but did not find the bottom of the net...but that time is coming!

Finally, special mention to Portlynn, who shows more and more sides to her game each and every day. Points, rebounds, assists; whatever the team needs, she finds a way to get done.

After a busy week the team now stands at 6-0 overall and 2-0 in RRAC play. We are off (whew!) for a couple of days before getting back to work on Tuesday before taking on Las Vegas Day School on Wednesday.

Go Faith!
