Scorpions Sting Crusaders in Conference Finale
In what was a highly entertaining and competitive game, Las Vegas Day School pulled away late to defeat the Crusaders 32-25.
Faith took a 4-1 lead early in the game thanks to a Neveah bucket and a sweet up & under move from Portlynn. The Crusaders extended the lead to 7-1 when Neveah drained a three, but the Scorpions chipped away and tied the score at seven after the first period.
The Crusaders got into some foul troubles in the second stanza and the defensive side of the ball was most affected, as LVDS scored ten points overall in the second, while Faith manages only six, with three of those coming from the charity stripe, with Dena - who battled hard through a cold to play - splitting a pair of free throws in the process. Day School led 17-13 at the break.
Faith played its best quarter in the third stanza, outscoring the Scorpions 9-6. Special shoutout to Addison, who played some STELLAR defense during this quarter, and to Mia W, who hit a nice running layup as well. Skylar played tough down low and Danielle, as she does all of the time, did all the little things - setting screens, showing great hustle and energy - to help the Crusaders have a great quarter. She made a perfect pass late in the quarter to set up a teammate, and LVDS had a 23-22 lead after 18 minutes.
Gotta give the Scorpions a lot of credit for the way they played in the 4th quarter. They moved the ball very well and clamped down on defense, as the only Faith scoring was a triple from Annika. Day School got nine points in the quarter, and that accounted for the 32-25 final.
With that result the Crusaders are now 7-3 on the season, and finished the regular season with a 2-2 conference record. We are looking forward to our non conference finale vs Slam Academy on Friday and then the RRAC playoffs next week.
