Crusader Clash - Tennis Style - Provides for a Great Day!
Today was the Faith A vs Faith B match, and also Picture Day, and that gave us an opportunity to have everyone together again and set up a FULL SQUAD scrimmage, with a college tennis atmosphere of nine matches all going on at one time. This was a lot of fun, and we are looking forward to making this Crusader Clash a staple of the MS program for years to come.
The teams were broken up into "Home" and "Visitor" and the matchups were created to hoepfully see some great matches to get everyone ready for the rest of the season, and things pretty much went according to plan. Five of the nine matches were decided by 6-3 scores or closer, and the other four all saw some excellent tennis played, with a lot of great points. Congrats to Team Visitor for the overall win, and the individual match winners were: Taryn, Mia B, Josiah, Rachel/Jade, Ryan/Zane, Jaxon/Addyson, Maryn/Mia T, and Madison/Danielle.
Wait, is that only eight winners? Yes, it is, as this matchup gave us an opportunity to have a little fun with two of the THREE SETS OF SISTERS we have on the team this year. We paired the Woo Sisters (8th grader Leean and 6th grader Joanne) togehter to take on fellow 8/6 dup Brooklyn and Mackenzie Meier. The four of them promised to not scream at each other or intentionally hurt their partner (or the opponent, we guess), and it was a great deal of fun to watch. The photos below show the dueling Sister Acts together. Congrats on the Meier Combo for the win, but truthfully all four girls did a great job.
Next, special shout outs to Kai/Elyssa and Sam, as while they dropped their sets in super close matches, each played exceptionally well and came back from deficits to make for very exciting and competitive matches. Sam and Mia played one set of NO AD singles for over 90 minutes, and that is hard to do - showing just how hard each was willing to work. The match ended in a 9-7 tiebreaker win, just could not have been closer. Very proud of both players. Elyssa and Kai dropped a 7-5 decision but knew they played well afterwards, and will take today as a learning experience, for sure.
Finally, special shout outs to the following people: Carson Lajuan - who stayed and cheered on his teammates even though he was not able to play. Carson has been battling some health issues but still is a big part of this team, and having him out there today was great! That is what being a Crusader is all about. Lastly, special FIRST CRUSADER WIN kudos go to Danielle Alacron!
GO FAITH!!!!!
