First Things First - Crusaders Take Both Openers
Faith travelled to Arbor View on Thursday for the season, and new Mountain Region, opener, and came away with wins by both the Girls (18-0) and Boys (12-6) teams.
The Girls Team qualified for the State Tournament last year and returned all but two members of that team. They also added in a starter from 2016 that was returning from injury, as well as a slew of new players to the roster in the sophomore and freshman classes. Hopes are high for the season and the opener went as well as could be, as the Crusaders blanked the Aggies by an 18-0 tally. Jade Mayweather was 3-0 on the day while the duo if Arriana VanHouweling and Hannah Lundgaard paced the doubles with a 2-0 record. We also saw "first Crusader wins" from Mira Flinberti, Kenadee Semenik, Eleni Ciulla, Katie Briggs, Adrianna Martinez, Paige Truman, and Christina Chen.
The Boys were without Max Blum, our #1 singels player for each of the last two years. Everyone stepped up to defeat an Aggies bunch that will very likely be a relatively high seed in the Mountain League playoffs this season, Kenny Dobrev went 3-0 at first singles, Stephen Dobrev was 3-0 in singles as well, while Blake Kelly/Taylor Pettigrew were 3-0 in doubles action. The other Crusader points came from Hayden Coffing/Christian Conway, and the tandem of Juno Suwanduan and Nick Cherubino, the latter making his first start as a Crusader and responding quite well.
The team is looking forward to the annual Tri-Match on Saturday, with a tilt against Moapa Valley in the morning and then the 2018 edition of the Battle of Hualapai vs Bishop Gorman at 3:30pm,
Go Faith!
