Crusader Clash Sees 7/8 B Post THREE Point Win

Fresh off a big league win over Signature Prep, the stepped up to take on the 7th/8th Grade B team from Faith in a Friday matinee designed to help our 7th/8th graders get ready to start their season tomorrow. In a well played, nip and tuck contest, the elder Crusaders prevailed 18-15.
Both teams came out firing in the first quarter, with the 6th grade bunch squeaking out a 7-6 lead after the first six minutes.  Lennelle and Izzie were the catalysts for our team, as they both made some excellent passes and going to the rim a great deal, drawing a combined three fouls, which we turned into three points. Sam, taking on the tallest frontcourt of the season so far, was tough inside and got two baskets, with our crew leading 7-6 after the first period.

Unfortunately for us, that first frame was the offensive highlight, as we managed only eight points the rest of the way. The good news is that our defense was, for the most part, still very solid. We held our foe to just one bucket in the 2nd quarter while we scored four points, with two each coming from Brinley and Izzie. The younger Crusaders led 11-8 at the break.

We did some good things in the third stanza, but we were only rewarded with one basket, as several good shots went in and out. That was not the case for our opponent, as they scored eight points in this frame, six of them coming from loooong range as they sank both three pointers they attempted. The other basket came on a full team defensive breakdown, and that is something we will address, and learn from. Thanks to that spurt, the 7/8 team led 16-13 after three quarters.

Neither team was able to make much happen offensively in the 4th quarter, and 7/8 led 18-13 until the final minute when we got a basket off a well run inbounds play to account for the final score.

The team was sad after the game, but the "L" in this case will stand for Learn, as we have identified things we need to work on, and we will do so in practice and in our game next week.

The best part of the day - as it always is when Faith teams play each other - was the post game prayer at the center circle. Both teams, all the coaches, and the referees (who were both Faith Faculty, THANK YOU!) gathered for a prayer, with the players from both teams arm and arm in a checkerboard pattern, with the players from the teams mixed, and together in prayer.

Good luck to Coach Chapman's team as you open your season tomorrow.  GO CRUSADERS!!!
