HIGH SCHOOL
Happy National Lutheran Schools Week!
During National Lutheran Schools' week we kick off the Hearts4Jesus Charity of the Month for February . . . it's been tradition to kick off with a penny war, grade versus grade.
The Middle School will compete against each other and the High School will compete against each other.
Middle School Collection Jugs will be located outside of Dr. Knorr's office near the 6th grade hallway intersection.
High School Collection Jugs will be located in the cafeteria near the glass doors.
NEW FOR 2020:  Last year we had the best competition ever which resulted in the student councils spending hours counting pennies.  So this year, we are giving extra points for rolled pennies.  Pennies are worth 1 positive point each.  If you deposit "bank rolled" pennies (these are pennies rolled by a machine from a bank) in the jug, you will receive 100 positive points (2x the value) for your grade.  If you deposit "self rolled" (these are 50 pennies rolled by hand in a wrapper) in the jug, you will receive 75 positive points (1.5 the value) for your grade.  Silver coins and paper money are negative points.  The idea is to put the positive points in your grade's jug and negative points in your competition's jug.
Let's see what we can do this year for our Lutheran School's fundraiser "Mission India"
For more information:

MOST PREP SAT CLASS
Faith Lutheran is proud to announce a new SAT preparation partnership with the founder and president of MostPrep, Mike Obstgarten. He will be running 6-week prep courses at 6:45 to 9:15pm in room 216 for juniors and seniors specifically for the SAT starting this summer for $600. Students interested in prepping for the ACT should still take this course as the exams are now similar enough that specific ACT courses are not necessary. This full-length course provides ample instruction and review of the concepts most frequently tested on the SAT, as well as the coaching and implementation of the test-taking techniques that have been proven to work, all while dispelling common myths and reassuring students that the task in front of them is not as daunting as it might seem. To sign up please fill out the form at this link a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the start of the class you are interested in. REGISTER The total $600 for the class will be added to your tuition bill once the class has begun. Contact Mr. Buikema at buikemad@flhsemail.org or Mike directly at mostprep@gmail.comwith questions.

DEVOTIONAL
For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to bring the Gentiles to obedience—by word and deed. (Romans 15:18)
In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. The archbishop John Chrysostom’s last name means Golden-tongue. Folks heard him preach and he got a new last name because he was that good. Even so, he died in exile. That sounds like a bummer, yet he preached Christ to the end. This is the greater thing.
We want the titles. The praise. The acclamations. Stop. To God be the glory. We remember Chrysostom for what God has done through him. We read his sermons to hear the Law proclaimed in sternness and the Gospel preached in all sweetness. We remember Chrysostom, who only wanted to speak of Jesus. It’s easier to deal with Epiphany in the person of Jesus who heals the sick, but signs and wonders are still being done by the power of the Spirit of God where His Gospel is preached. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. This Word is enough to raise the dead.
It’s hard to look at the visible Church sometimes and see the true and living God at work within it. Faith comes by hearing. It was preached by Chrysostom. It’s preached by your pastor. The Epiphany still happens as we hear the Word and believe. God is revealed. Dying men are given life. Christ is proclaimed, and death is conquered for you. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. –Rev. Harrison Goodman
To live is Christ, for us, to die is gain; Where then shall be our hunger, danger, pain? Our joy to preach good news to rich and poor, Then be with Christ, to live forevermore. (The Saints in Christ are One in Every Place, LSB 838:3)
