African-America History Month, also known as Black History Month, has been celebrated in the United States since February 1926. The primary emphasis of the celebration is a coordinated effort to teach the history of African Americans to our nation's young people. This February, the African-American students of Faith Lutheran will be hosting African American History Week during the first week in February. The celebration will last for four days, and the students are preparing for a great celebration. Accessing PSAT Scores
All the PSAT scores from the exam taken in October are now available. The breakdown of each section, including the correct answers as well as a personalized study plan from Khan Academy can be found on your College Board account at collegeboard.org. If you have not yet, you will need to create a College Board account in order to see your scores. The directions are below. Please, please, please...if you have already created an account do not create another, as this will severely complicate all dealings with College Board in the future, from SAT's to AP's to eventually sending scores to colleges. If you can't remember if you already have an account, please go through the "forgot my password" or "forgot my username" process to be certain. Any issues with accounts need to be directed to College Board rather than Faith Lutheran. Paper copies of scores will not be distributed as College Board no longer sends paper scores, however there will be test score interpretation assemblies during advisories in January for further information and to answer any questions.
-       Go to collegeboard.org
-       Click “Sign Up”
-       Go through the process of creating an account
-       When done, sign in with your new username and password
-       Click “PSAT 8/9”
-       If your scores do not appear, click “Add Scores”
-       You may be asked to enter your password again
-       You may be asked to update/double check all your information
-       Click “Update”
-       Scores should now be viewable

DEVOTIONAL
Walk in the Light!
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. John 3:19
Here are some helpful observations on ‘walking in the light’. 1) Sin is God’s enemy, and yours. Jesus said, ‘There is no neutral ground. If you’re not on my side, you’re the enemy’ (Luke 11:23). Neutrality and passivity aren’t options; you must treat sin like the enemy it is. 2) Be honest with yourself and God. Don’t excuse your sin as a ‘condition’ or ‘tendency’. You didn’t just make a bad judgement - you sinned. You may have had a troubled past, but today you have choices! 3) Don’t indulge in beating yourself up. You’re not supposed to wallow in condemnation before acknowledging your sin. Making yourself miserable doesn’t signify that you deserve forgiveness. That comes by grace, through faith alone. Every second spent in self-condemnation is time stolen from you by Satan. The moment that brings the acknowledgment of sin also brings the cleansing of sin. 4) If you repeat the sin, repeat the confession. ‘Won’t God get tired of me coming to Him?’ you ask. No. God accepted Jesus as a substitute for all your sins for all time, so He will never reject you. Isaiah told God’s people, ‘Return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy...and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon’ (Isaiah 55:7). Above all, be patient with yourself. Give the Holy Spirit time to develop in you the strength needed to transcend your old nature and overcome your old sinful habits, and be assured it will happen (see Philippians 1:6).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for forgiving me for the sins I commit and work in me the power to overcome temptation. Thank You for the Mercy You give me through Your son Jesus Christ. In His name, Amen
