Faith Falls in State Semifinals as Coronado Posts 11-7 Win

All season long, Coronado had been wining very comfortable matches, with only being less than a 13-5 score, and that came when their best player was not available.  Faith knew it was going to be a tough task, and it turned out to be a little too tough, as the Cougars defeated the Crusaders by an 11-7 score in the State Semifinal. It was a hard fought match and Faith should be very proud of the effort.

In an evenly matched contest, four of the six opening round matches were close, as Kennedy prevailed 6-3 and while Faith did not take a doubles point this time around, we had our chances as all three of the doubles matches were well played, close contests that could have gone either way. However, CHS did take a 5-1 lead after the first round.

The second round saw somewhat of a Faith rally, as Jade got into the win column, as did Kelsie/Summer, but the Crusaders were not able to get more than those two wins, making it 9-3 in favor of Coronado after the second round.

In many cases a score like that would see a team mentally defeated and non motivated for the third round, as winning all six points was going to be very tough. However, to Faith's credit that was not the case, and in fact the Crusaders won four of the six final round matches, with Jade and Kennedy each winning in singles, Summer/Kelsie getting thier second doubles win of the day, and Elyse/Courtney earning a doubles win as wll. In the end we dropped this State Semifinal by an 11-7 score, and that turned out to be the closest anyone got to beating Coronado this year, as they won the State Final by a 13-5 score.  Congrats to the Cougars on an undefeated season and State Championship, and congrats to all the members of the Faith Girls Tennis Team for finishing tied for 3rd in the State (there is not a 3rd/4th place match) despite losing NINE seniors from the previous year.

The coaches are proud of, and impressed with, the efforts of both teams this year, and know that great things are on the horizon for Faith Tennis. We thank everyone for what was truly a special year!

Go Faith!!!
