Crusaders Sweep Aggies by 13-5 and 15-3 Tallies!
Both Faith teams enjoyed just the second home match of the season, as the Boys defeated Arbor View 13-5 and the Girls, despite missing several key players due to injury or other committments, played well in posting a 15-3 decision.
The Boys got off to a great start as they led 5-1 after one round. The highlight (and get used to this sentence) came from Jonah, who defeated a very crafty yet hard hitting lefty by a 7-5 score. Ryan and Mike played their best match of the season in controlling a very good Aggie #1 dubs duo by a 6-2 count (maybe those two should be on Stadium all of the time) while Taylor/Blake and Sam/Liam also posted wins. The second round was another 5-1 Faith win, and again Jonah provided the highlight, with a 6-2 win over the lone Aggie that had won in Round 1. Sam/Liam defeated the AV #1 dubs team 6-4, Blake/Taylor matched that score, Max won 6-0, and Mike/Ryan also won 6-0, again on the Stadium!
With the team result cemented, we enjoyed the opportunity to get playing time for everyone, and delivering third round wins were Nick (6-4) and the duo of Hayden/Juno, who were down 0-3 at one point but rallied in front of a large and loud Stadium Court crowd to post a 6-4 win. Jonah was playing the final round in an effort to go 3-0 on the day, and beat the top AV singles player by a 6-4 count, in what was a well played match by both competitors. This was a good win against a good team.
The Arbor View Girls are an experienced bunch and pose a threat to every foe, and seeing as how Faith was missing its top two singles players, a member of the regular 1st doubles team, and two other players that had earned starts this year, there was reason for concern, to be sure. However, the depth of our team was on full display here, as Summer moved up to #1 and simply posted a 3-0 day, including a dominating win over a USTA ranked player in the first round. Elyse moved up to #2 singles to make the first singles start of her career, and she also went 3-0, and we got a win from Sophia at 3rd singles as well.
The combo doubles team of Courtney and Chloe were 2-0 at #1, Sarah and Megan moved up to #2 and also were 2-0, while Naja/Isabelle were 2-1 on the day, with the loss coming to the #1 duo for the Aggies, and Isabelle/Naja played well in that match despite the loss. The teams of Greer/Ireland and Aliyah/Hanna also posted wins to account for the 15-3 final score.
The teams have three matches next week: At Spring Valley on Tuesday, at Legacy on Thursday, and a clash with Clark on Friday.
Go Faith!!!
