Crusaders Corral Mustangs by 16-2 & 13-5 Scores in Home Opener
After starting the season with four road matches, the Crusaders finally returned home to the friendly confines of the Darling Tennis Center and posted two wins, with the Girls winning 16-2 and the Boys prevailing 13-5. The results have both the Boys and the Girls 2-0 in league play.
Things started off great for the Crusader Boys in the first round, as Max, Jonah and first time starter Alexander Brodsky all posted singles wins while the doubles tandems of Ryan/Mike, Blake/Taylor, and Sam Hertig/Liam Stumacher all posted wins. Faith won the second round 4-2, with both Jonah, Max, and Sam/Liam winning again, along with the tandem of Kevin Zhang/Preston Schultz getting a victory. The third round was a split, with the highlight coming with the duo of Juno Suwanduan and Nicholas Cherubino getting the win in a very competitive 6-4 set.
Sam and Liam were 3-0 on the day, and dropped just one game in those three sets, while Jonah and Max were each 2-0. However, the best part of the day was the renewed team spirit and support of all players for their teammates. It was a fun match, and that is how it is supposed to be!
Much like the Boys, the Girls got off to a very strong start, winning 11 of the first 12 matches. Highlighting those results were first round wins by Samantha Schuetze and the team of Greer DeBoni and Chloe Pollack. It was the first start of the season for both Sam and Greer, and both did quite well. Kennedy defeated a very solid player by a 6-0 score.
The second round saw Ireland Otto win the first singles match of her Varsity career, and our #3 doubles team of Megan Parrish/Sarah Fridrich defeat the #1 Mustang pair by a 6-4 score to complete a 2-0 day.
Faith was 5-1 in the final round as well, with Hannah Namkung getting a win, Eden and Sophia controlling their foes, Aliyah/Ashley getting a win, Chloe and Elyse winning 6-3 ON STADIUM COURT, and Summer playing some very smart tennis to get a 6-3 win over a talented player, from Italy.
Much like for the Boys, EVERY girl got to play today, which was a nice thing, and folks responded well. However, the best part of the day was the renewed team spirit and support of all players for their teammates. It was a fun match, and that is how it is supposed to be!
Back at it tomorrow, at Desert Oasis, at 3pm. This is our first ever away match vs the Diamondbacks, and we are looking forward to it!
