Crusaders Sting Scorpions With a Pair of Wins
Both of the A Teams kept their winning streaks alive, with the Boys winning in a more competitive than the score showed 5-0 win and the Girls gutting out a 3-2 victory over LVDS.
Elyse got things underway with a 6-2 win at first singles today, with Eleni playing right next to her. Ashley M stepped into the #3 singles spot and got off to a slow start before rallying, but it was a little too late to come all the way back, and she dropped a 3-6 decision. Breanna and Megan battled hard but could never really get going, and ended up losing 4-6, putting the Crusaders in a 1-2 hole with one match left to go and, yep, Eleni still playing.
Mia and Sarah played very well in a 6-1 win to tie the score and - did you guess this part yet - Eleni was still playing. With several of the Boys cheering her on, and Breanna leading the cheers for the Girls team, Eleni battled back from a 2-4 deficit to go up 5-4 but the LVDS raised her level to take a 6-5 lead. In fact, Eleni was down 6-5, 0-40 and things looked grim. However, playing her best tennis of the day, Eleni rattled off the final four points of that game (all of which were match points against her!) to force the tiebreaker. Not surprisingly, it was a closely contested breaker, with Eleni prevailing 8-6 and sealing the win for the Girls team!
The Boys won all five matches today as Grey posted a 6-4 win, Stephen won 6-0, and Kenny defeated his Scorpion foe by a 6-3 tally. Blake and Taylor continued their strong play with a 6-2 win while Liam/Jason notched a 6-4 win for the Maroon and Gold.
There were three extra round matches today and Eleigh/Andrew got a 6-4 win while Carlin, playing in his first singles action for Faith, dropped a close on to the #3 LVDS singles player. Brooke, who does not have a ton of singles experience, played a great set, forcing a tiebreaker before dropping the 6-7 decision.
With the result both the Girls and the Boys teams are 3-0 heading into Thursday's showdown wtih The Meadows.
