Coach Cheney has coached the high school girls golf team since its inception in 2000, leading the team to state championships in 2004, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 along with five state runner-up finishes (2001, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011). Six of his players have won individual state titles (2004, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015). He has been named the Southern Region girls coach of the year five times.
He took over the boys team in 2012, six years after he started the MS golf program. After a state runner-up finish in 2013, the boys went on to win state championships in 2014, 2015, and 2016. He has been the Southern Region coach of the year four times. Coach Cheney holds a master’s degree in Performance Psychology and is a Certified Consultant – Association for Applied Sport Psychology (CC-AASP). He is a certified Golf/Psych instructor, TPI certified, and been an instructor with The First Tee of Southern Nevada. He played golf and basketball at Rhodes College, where he graduated with a degree in biochemistry.
