Black History Month STEM Panel 2025

BSA President Lena Lemma (‘25) writes: Thank you for attending our Black History Month Panel. This year we focus on black excellence in STEM and we had some amazing researchers within the fields.

1. Dr. Hardman is an interventional neuroradiologist where he operates and researches surgery without actually entering the brain. He discussed brain images with aneurysms being common in his practice.
2. Mr. Jackson is a cyber security specialist, or what he likes to say "an ethical hacker." He discussed the importance of online safety with issues such as doxing and virtual kidnapping becoming more popular in recent years.
3. Dr. McGlothen is a neuroscience researcher and professor at UNLV. Currently, she is doing research on microglia and its impact on the brain and how that impacts movement such as coordination skills.
4. Mr. Kelly is a game developer for PC and VR that is currently working on VR simulations for the military and medical devices. However, his future goal is to allow virtual classrooms to be developed where entire bodies are copied into a virtual reality classroom.

Thank you to Mrs. Crowder for the photos!
