I am a 16-year Summerlin resident and a recent widower. My late wife had many interests and I have proceeded to memorialize her accordingly.
Since arriving to this beloved community, I have driven by Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School hundreds of times but didn’t begin to discover the incredible things that go on here until early this year after reading an article in the Summerlin View.
My focus has been donations to Faith’s tennis program and attending the magnificent theater productions, but will now also make contributions to the Crusade for Excellence which is a general fund allowing the school’s administration to direct monies where most needed.
At Faith, every worthwhile endeavor in life is available for a young mind to contemplate and engage in and no expense is spared in making sure students have the tools and instructors that ensure spectacular outcomes in a Christian environment. Moreover, the 10 adjacent acres of vacant land soon to be developed by the school will offer even more and greater opportunities. I recall the disposition of the great golfer Jack Nicklaus: “And so I think our job is to try to take the environment, take what the good Lord has given us, and expand upon it or enhance it, without destroying it.”
These wonderful kids do extensive volunteering in Greater Las Vegas, graduate at a 99%+ rate and go on to attend the best colleges and universities in the U.S. This results in a better country and world based on an education at Faith and the families and friends that make it possible.
Las Vegas and Summerlin have changed and matured significantly since 2000, especially now that we have a professional hockey team with the Raiders hopefully to follow. Summerlin boasts of three prestigious casinos, Red Rock Canyon, Boca Park, Tivoli Village, Downtown Summerlin and much more – including Faith Lutheran. This place is an absolute treasure right in our midst! Everyone near and far needs to know it and I for one will make contributions to the school not only in the interest of my wife’s legacy, but also motivated by local pride and patriotism.
In my non-profit file at home I’ve replaced the “Faith Lutheran” tab with one that simply says “Priceless.”
And to the school I invoke the beautiful ballad sung by Elvis: ”For I can’t help falling in love with you.”
