MOST PREP SAT CLASSES
Faith Lutheran is proud to announce a new SAT preparation partnership with the founder and president of MostPrep, Mike Obstgarten. He will be running 6-week prep courses at 6:45 to 9:15pm in room 216 for juniors and seniors specifically for the SAT starting this summer for $600. Students interested in prepping for the ACT should still take this course as the exams are now similar enough that specific ACT courses are not necessary. This full-length course provides ample instruction and review of the concepts most
frequently tested on the SAT, as well as the coaching and implementation of the
test-taking techniques that have been proven to work, all while dispelling common
myths and reassuring students that the task in front of them is not as daunting as it
might seem. To sign up please fill out the form at this link a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the start of the class you are interested in. REGISTER The total $600 for the class will be added to your tuition bill once the class has begun. Contact Mr. Buikema at buikemad@flhsemail.org or Mike directly at mostprep@gmail.comwith questions.

At Faith Lutheran High School, we have been blessed to provide devices for students to use while at Faith and to offer them, upon graduation, to students that have been here for the full 4 years. We also allowed seniors who have been here for less than 4 years to purchase the school’s laptop. This will be changing this year.
This year Apple has changed the MacBook Air line up and because of these changes we  will need to modify expectations on the way we sell MacBook Air to seniors.
In the past, seniors could purchase their laptops if they had been at faith less than 4 years. Students that have been with Faith the full four years were given the school’s laptop at no cost. This has been changed.
We need to make sure we can support all the future classes of students and the changes we will make to sell laptops will be that we will not sell laptops to students that have been here less than 3 years. If you have been here 3 years or more and less than the full 4 years, the laptop can be purchased for $300 (unless that device is a newer model than what was originally assigned which may be more). Laptops, if found damaged, will incur fees to repair.
We also must state that future offerings to students that are here less than the full 4 years is not a guarantee. We may have to restrict this more in the future.
If you are not a senior completing your full four years and are not returning to Faith, we will not sell the school’s laptop to you.

DEVOTIONAL
We should fear and love God so that we do not despise preaching and His Word, but hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn it. (Small Catechism: Third Commandment)
In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. It’s a curious thing that while the explanation of the Commandment is concerned with the Sabbath day, it never mentions a day. The Old Testament injunction for the Sabbath day goes all the way back to creation. “So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation” (Genesis 2:3). As justification for the Third Commandment, God Himself gives this commentary: “For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy” (Exodus 20:11).
The Sabbath day was written into nature, yet the Small Catechism doesn’t seem concerned at all about resting on the seventh day of the week! What’s changed?
It’s not that the Law has gone away. The principle of rest still remains—if you work and work and work, you’ll work yourself into an early grave. It’s necessary to rest. But the basis of rest isn’t just to take a breather in order to get back to work again. The basis for Sabbath rest is divine worship.
The Sabbath is a day for us to rest and for God to work. In the Old Testament, that day was the seventh day, or Saturday. But Christ fulfilled every Sabbath since the beginning of time with His rest in the tomb on the seventh day of Holy Week. And by His resurrection on the first day (eighth day) of the week, He brought God’s Sabbath rest to every day of the week.
Now, the holy day is every day that is sanctified by the Word of God and prayer (1 Timothy 4:5). God’s Word excludes all our work, and bids us rest in the work of Christ. And so we hold God’s Word as sacred and gladly hear and learn it. That is the true Sabbath rest. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.
“You shall observe the worship day That peace may fill your home, and pray, And put aside the work you do, So that God may work in you.” Have mercy, Lord! (These Are the Holy Ten Commands, LSB 581:4).
