At Faith Lutheran High School, we have been blessed to provide devices for students to use while at Faith and to offer them, upon graduation, to students that have been here for the full 4 years. We also allowed seniors who have been here for less than 4 years to purchase the school’s laptop. This will be changing this year.
This year Apple has changed the MacBook Air line up and because of these changes wewill need to modify expectations on the way we sell MacBook Air to seniors.
In the past, seniors could purchase their laptops if they had been at faith less than 4 years. Students that have been with Faith the full four years were given the school’s laptop at no cost. This has been changed.
We need to make sure we can support all the future classes of students and the changes we will make to sell laptops will be that we will not sell laptops to students that have been here less than 3 years. If you have been here 3 years or more and less than the full 4 years, the laptop can be purchased for $300 (unless that device is a newer model than what was originally assigned which may be more). Laptops, if found damaged, will incur fees to repair.
We also must state that future offerings to students that are here less than the full 4 years is not a guarantee. We may have to restrict this more in the future.
If you are not a senior completing your full four years and are not returning to Faith, we will not sell the school’s laptop to you.

DEVOTIONAL
Today’s Reading: Matthew 6:1-6; 16-21
Daily Lectionary: Genesis 1:1-9; Mark 1:1-13
And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they try to make their faces look miserable that their fasting may be seen by others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. (Matthew 6:16)
In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Where I’m from in Louisiana, yesterday was Mardi Gras. The whole state partied and celebrated a big last Fat Tuesday merry ending of the season of Epiphany! But at midnight, the party ends and everyone goes home because they have to get serious about the fast of Lent.
Don’t do it! Don’t show that it is Lent. Don’t announce to the world what you gave up for Lent. Don’t grimace as you skip sugar or complain that you aren’t drinking caffeine. Don’t do it. Resist it. Hide it. Don’t let your Lenten fast be seen by others! The first rule of your Lenten fast should be that you don’t talk about it.
If you don’t listen to Jesus on this one, if you blow your trumpet about how much you are sacrificing for Jesus this year, if you proclaim to the world how religious you are, Jesus won’t come and get you and put you in some Lenten penalty box. No, He won’t do anything to you. He just won’t reward you. That feeling that you are doing something for God is all you will get for your Lent.
“Your Lent:” That’s the whole problem. It’s not your Lent! It’s Jesus’ Lent for you! You’ll hear about Jesus’ keeping the Law for you this Lenten season. And as He does everything that God requires of you, He will suffer every punishment that you deserve. He will die for the good stuff you do—like fasting for Him. He will die for the evil that you do—daily and much.
Calvary is your Lent. Good Friday is your fast. Golgatha is where your salvation is won. Jesus’ death is the center of your faith and your Lent. And Easter? That is your standing forever before God.
So with Jesus as your Lent, you can give up anything that will help you focus your attention on Jesus. That can be the joy of certain foods or the fun you have doing certain things. Or, don’t give up anything at all. Just let what you do be between you and Jesus. Most of all, give up your sins! Give up your pride. Let go of needing to be religious and seen as good before people! Give those sins to Jesus. He’ll die for them. You’ll rise with Him. You have risen with Him in Baptism.
Today is the same as yesterday on the outside for you. It looks like Mardi Gras. But, inside, it’s all about Jesus’ Lent for you. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.
