Crusaders Prevail Over Saints to earn RRAC Win!

This group, pulled together from folks "kinda" interested and curious about basketball, has worked so hard since January, and come close on more than one occasion, put it all together today for an excellent TEAM win, as every Crusader scored and the team improved to 1-2 in Red Rock Conference play with a 24-2 win over Moutnain View Christian School. There is a lot to celebrate about this win, and the attidtude of the team late in the game is probably the biggest reason for pride!
Faith scored 10 seconds into the game, winning the tap and getting the ball to Lisa, who nailed the layup to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead. Lisa added to her point tallywith another bucket later in the period, and Lauryn swished a shot as well to account for the 6-0 Faith lead after the first six minutes. Vari had a steal and went coast to coast but the shot just missed, and Alexis was a dynamo on the glass and Kali'a made some nice passes.

Faith saw significant contributions from Katelyn and Lauryn in the second stanza, as both were extra aggressive and had several steals. Hana was solid on the glass and made probably the best pass of her Faith basketball career as well.  ALL of the scoring coming from Grace, the first bucket coming at the four minute mark after a nice rebound and a putback.  That score was Grace's first two career points, and she liked the feeling so much she got two more baskets, one after a pass and another after yet another rebound. Faith led 12-0 at the half.

Mt View played an excellent defensive quarter in the third, holding the Crusaders to just two points, that coming on a Vari basket. This was the result of Vari outhustling everyone on the floor to wrangle a rebound and put it back up for the score. Katelyn and Lisa each had steals in the third stanza and Faith led 14-0 after 18 minutes.

The first goal going into the 4th quarter was continuing to play solid defense, and to get everyone onto the scoresheet!  Mission accomplished, on both fronts. Hana rebounded a Crusader miss and went back up for a layup, making and in perfect form layup along the way. Kali'a crashed the boards and ended up making about a six footer for her points, while Alexis, who was doing excellent work on the glass all night long, had her effort paid off when she got in perfect rebounding position and notched a putback for two. Lisa added a basket, and then it was full on Katelyn mode, as the team amped up its effort all over the court and worked to get Katelyn a basket. The payoff came when Alexis grabbed yet another "effort" rebound and got the ball to Kali'a, who made a sweet pass to an open Katelyn for two points!  It is NOT an accident that the highest scoring quarter of the season came when the team had made a decision to move the ball around, ALOT, and that will pay off down the stretch and hopefully into the playoffs, should the team be fortunate enough to qualify.

There was another goal in the final stanza, and that was not making MVCS feel the same way these Crusaders had felt last week, when they were shut out 39-0. Knowing how that felt and not wanting the Saints to feel that way, Faith pulled - the girls made this decision on thier own before the coaches had to say it, parents be very proud of this bunch -  back from the pressure defense, and the Saints started moving the ball more. Mt View got a couple of open looks down the stretch and converted one of them as #43 scored from just outside the key to account for the final. Everyone was happy for the Saints to get on the scoreboard, and the Christian attitude of the team down the stretch was great, great to see. They had learned a lesson from last Wendesday's game, and they applied it - SO proud.

With the win the team improves to 1-2 in RRAC play, and with the inside track to the #4 seed in the post season. We will know more after Thursday, but however the playoff picture turns out, we are extremely proud of the efforts of this octet and very happy for them to get their first, as Grace said, "on their own" win of the season!

GO CRUSADERS!!!!
