Wanted: Friendly Rims! Faith Falls 14-5 to Adelson

Sometimes the scoreboard does not tell the story of th game, as despite the loss Faith played its best game of the season today, things just did not go our way. Congrats to Adelson on the victory.
Faith played its best first quarter of the season against Adelson, playing excellent defense, dominating the glass, and getting open shots. Unfortunately, the shots would not fall, despite a jumper from Katelyn being halfway down the cylinder before popping out.  As such, instead of taking a potential lead into the break, the score was knotted at zero after the 1st quarter.  Highlights of the quarter included a blocked shot by Kali'a, Lisa making a perfect inbounds pass to get a teammate open, and both Hana and Lisa doing some great board work.

The second stanza saw saw more of the game. Kali'a had three steals in this stanza, and Vari also had a steal which led to a drive to the hoops. It looked to most like she was fouled on the shot, but there was no call. Faith did get the ball out of bounds after the play and did well with the inbounds pass. Adelson got baskets one minute and two minutes into play to lead 4-0, Lisa made a great drive to the basket and was fouled during the shot. Both of her free throws were true, but both were halfway down and rattled out. Lauryn moved great without the ball and got open for two good, shots, and just like others, both of these looked like they were in, and they somehow rattled out.  It was a 4-0 Lions lead and the half, but it could have easily been 6-4 or even 8-4 Crusaders had the rim luck been different.

At halftime, the A Team members in attendance decided to do a "halftime show" - consisting of something that resembled dancing, some Baby Shark moves, some clapping, and the "finale". It was....a sight be behold. If they ever share the video, make no mistake that we will will post it.

Adelson jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Faith finally got a shot to fall, as Hana made a layup..off the glass! The bucket was set up by Vari, who went to the ground to retrieve a loose ball and made a nice pass to Hana inside. Special shout out to Alexis, who drew the defensive assigmment against Adelson's top player in this quarter and did a great job, holding her scoreless and being extra aggressive in the process. Great to see. It was 8-2 in favor of the Lions after three.

The Crusaders refused to give in, and after Adelson took a 12-2 lead early Faith fought back to made it 2-5 with four minutes to go. The points came from Alexis, who got a rebound and went up for the shot. She was fouled in the process, but still made the basket and converted the free throw for the traditional three point play. The team continued to force the action, drawing four more fouls along the way but finding no success from the charity stripe. Had a couple of those shot (three on the front end of 1 & 1's) maybe it would have been different, but after a hoop with under two minutes left Adelson posted a 14-5 win.

The other 4th quarter highlights were Hana stealing an inbounds pass, Lauryn getting a steal and taking a jumper, and the final play of the game, when Lisa threw an outlet pass to Kali'a, who caught it at halfcourt with 2.9 seconds left and raced dow n the court to attempt a jumper. It was perfect execution of what we had talked about, and showed just how hard this team plays for the full 24 minutes.

The B Team will join the A Team for a tussle with New Horizons Academy on Tuesday.
