Online Health Sign-up for High School Students
If you are in need of completing your high school health credit, the Spring 2 session of online Health begins March 25. If you would like to be enrolled in this class, you must fill out the form at the link below by Friday March 15. You will be charged an extra $350 on your tuition bill for this class unless you have a study hall, late arrival or early dismissal in your 2018-2019 class schedule. If you took Health in 8th grade here at Faith or have taken Health at Las Vegas Day School, Adelson, Cornerstone, Alexander Dawson, Lake Mead Christian Academy or The Meadows in 7th or 8th grade, your high school Health requirement is already complete and you do not need this class. Love Kung-fu movies, Boba tea, or fresh dumplings?
Chinese/Lunar New Year is Feb 5! This holiday is celebrated in China, Korea, China, Vietnam and Thailand- and lasts 4 days. The International Student Association has a week's worth of plans for the FLHS student body next week including learning how to play Mahjong, how to fold dumplings, and how to make your own Boba at home! There will be events at lunch as well as after school! Check out the fliers around school, or the ISA instagram (@flhsisa) to get more details. Penny War! The annual penny war for Lutheran Schools Week will take place from January 28 – February 8! Pennies are worth positive points and dimes, quarters, nickels, and dollars are worth negative points. The goal is to get the highest points for your grade. The jugs for high school will be located in the cafeteria and the middle school jugs will be in front of Dr. Knorr’s office. (2/1)
As a part of Sadie’s week, on Thursday, February 7 from 7:00-9:00pm, the Student Leadership team is hosting the Annual Faith Lutheran Dodgeball Tournament in the student center. The tournament is played with teams of 5-7 players. The tournament itself is double elimination, so get ready for a night of competitive fun! Both boys and girls can play, and student coaches are encouraged! Only the first 20 teams are allowed to participate, so if you are interested in signing up, email Saige Schweitzer (saige.schweitzer21@flhsemail.org) your team roster and get ready for a competitive night! The Deadline to sign up is February 1st!

Lincoln Elementary on the east side of our valley is in need of food pantry items. Please bring non-perishable food items BEFORE school and drop them off on the west side of the auxiliary gym by the sign. Together we can make a difference.
COMMUNITY CRUSADERS SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
The Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health is looking for 15 – 20 student volunteers to help out with setting up for their annual Power of Love Gala on March 13 at MGM Grand Garden Arena. COMMUNITY CRUSADER SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
Need service hours? Head over to Liberty High School on February 9, 2019 from 9am-1pm. The Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation is hosting a packing event to send care packages to our deployed troops. Come out and support an alumni family and our deployed service members while getting service hours!

Academy Seniors - Graduation Paperwork due January 31
Graduation paperwork can be found in your Academy Group on Crusader Connect and must be printed, filled out, signed off by a counselor, and turned into Mrs. Blank by January 31 in order to graduate with your Academy Endorsement. (1/31)
SAT & ACT Class
In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate combined ACT & SAT course on campus, which includes 25 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course starts with a practice test on January 26 and will run mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, concluding just before the March SAT and April ACT. The following class will begin with a practice test on April 6 and will run mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, concluding just before the June SAT and June ACT. Exact dates for the classes are listed below. To sign up please fill out the form at this link by by March 22 for the Spring class. REGISTER The total $599 for the class will be added to your tuition bill once the class has begun. Contact Mr. Buikema at buikemad@flhsemail.org with questions.

An informational meeting for all 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys interested in playing baseball this spring will be held on Thursday, January 31st at 6:00 pm in the Student Center Aux Area. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Do you carry a grudge against someone? Are you waiting to get even? You know the saying about payback! They did it to you. Something bad happens to them and we joke about “karma.” What goes around comes around. This is the world’s way of teaching us to deal with people who hurt us. Hurt them back.
Compare that to Jesus. He was arrested. He was tried. He didn’t even try to defend Himself. All He ever did was speak the truth. He was handed over, beaten mercilessly and swapped for a murderer. He hung on the cross while everyone made fun of Him for what? For nothing at all. Perhaps the world was most mad that He didn’t even try to stick up for Himself. But what the world forgets is that if Jesus HAD stood up for Himself, we would have perished eternally.
By not defending Himself, by not striking back, by not taking revenge, Jesus saves those who always want payback to happen. He saves you. Those sins of wanting to get back at others are what put your Lord on a cross. Yet, it is His being on that cross and dying for you that wipes out those wicked desires to see bad things happen to the people you don’t like!
And here are two promises the Lord gives. First is His promise that by your Baptism into His Name, your Lord forgives your desire for revenge and harm to others. Second, He promises by that same Baptism and through His Word and Sacraments to grant you the Holy Spirit to work in you the godly desires to overcome that lust for vengeance. The Spirit works in you to teach you the true way of living as a follower of Jesus: by NOT paying people back with what they deserve.
After all, the Lord does not deal with your evil by being evil back, but by being your Savior and forgiving your sins. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.
