Crusaders Tame Sharks in Opener, Post 16-10 Win

After a long ride (Thanks Mr. Fox for keeping us safe!) to the Shark's Den the Crusaders started their season off strong with a 16-10 win over the always tough Rosemary Clark Middle School Sharks of Pahrump.

The goal of the day was good defense, and the Crusaders were very successful on that account early on, holding RCMS to just one first quarter basket. That hoop was sandwiched around buckets for Riley and Karly, and Faith led 4-2 after the first six minutes. Abby was a disruptive force on the defensive end of the floor, and Shay made a couple of excellent moves around the basket that led to the aforementioned scores. Isabella Morrow played solid defense at her spot in this quarter as well.

RCMS flipped the script in the second stanza, besting Faith by a 4-2 score to even things up at six apiece heading into haltime. Evie got the only Faith basket of this frame - the result of some great work underneath the basket. Kayleigh was also stout on the glass during the 2nd period. A funny moment happened during this period as Abby got a rebound, got smacked in the head, yelled "Oww!" and looked aright at the ref, who was not impressed. She still got the ball back, and the Crusaders kept possession. It was a nice example of playing through things that are out of your control.

Faith played an excellent third quarter, holding RCMS to one basket and one free throw, while adding a running jumper from Tailynn, and a basket each from Evie and Riley. Marin played quite well during this stretch, anchoring the defense and making some solid decisions with the ball. The Crusaders led 12-9 after three quarters.

Going into the final frame we talked about maintaining our poise and mindset - one possession at a time, do not look ahead or behind. The girls did an excellent job of this, especially considering that RCMS was in full court press for the final three minutes of the game, and Faith handled it well. Tai added two points in this quarter and the final Faith points came courtesy of a nice jumer from Isabella Ramsey, who confidently stepped into the shot after more excellent defense from Abby led to a steal which led to the bucket.   All in all, Faith outscored the Sharks 10-4 in the second half to come away with the win.

There is still plenty to work on, and the team is excited to get back to practice next week as we prepare for the start of Red Rock Athletic Conference play. Everyone worked well together and cheered on the teammates that were on the floor and supported them. Everyone played a big role in this win and we learned a lot...all in all a great night.

GO FAITH!!!
