African-America History Month, also known as Black History Month, has been celebrated in the United States since February 1926. The primary emphasis of the celebration is a coordinated effort to teach the history of African Americans to our nation's young people. This February, the African-American students of Faith Lutheran will be hosting African American History Week during the first week in February. The celebration will last for four days, and the students are preparing for a great celebration. If you have any questions, concerns or if you would like to help, please contact Elaynne Washington at 702-804-4411 or washingtone@flhsemail.org.

Accessing PSAT Scores
All the PSAT scores from the exam taken in October are now available. The breakdown of each section, including the correct answers as well as a personalized study plan from Khan Academy can be found on your College Board account at collegeboard.org. If you have not yet, you will need to create a College Board account in order to see your scores. The directions are below. Please, please, please...if you have already created an account do not create another, as this will severely complicate all dealings with College Board in the future, from SAT's to AP's to eventually sending scores to colleges. If you can't remember if you already have an account, please go through the "forgot my password" or "forgot my username" process to be certain. Any issues with accounts need to be directed to College Board rather than Faith Lutheran. Paper copies of scores will not be distributed as College Board no longer sends paper scores, however there will be test score interpretation assemblies during advisories in January for further information and to answer any questions.
-       Go to collegeboard.org
-       Click “Sign Up”
-       Go through the process of creating an account
-       When done, sign in with your new username and password
-       Click “PSAT 8/9”
-       If your scores do not appear, click “Add Scores”
-       You may be asked to enter your password again
-       You may be asked to update/double check all your information
-       Click “Update”
-       Scores should now be viewable

DEVOTIONAL
…while he himself went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors." 1 Kings 19:4
The Bible says: ‘When Elijah saw how things were, he ran for dear life to Beersheba... He left his young servant there and went on into the desert another day’s journey. He came to a lone broom bush and collapsed in its shade, wanting in the worst way to be done with it all - just to die’ (vv. 3-4). What was Elijah’s mistake? The same one we sometimes make when we’re depressed: we focus on our feelings rather than on the facts of the situation. It happens when we get down. Elijah felt like a failure because of one incident that intimidated him. He thought to himself, ‘I’m such a coward - why am I running?’ And because he felt like a failure he assumed he was a failure. Feelings often lie; and when we focus on how we feel instead of focusing on reality we get into trouble. For instance, when we make a mistake in one area, we tend to feel like we’re failures at all of life in general. That’s a misconception. Everyone is entitled to make mistakes, and you can fail in some areas without being a failure as a person. Mental health experts encourage us to vent our feelings and get them out. But that’s not the complete answer, because feelings are notoriously unreliable. God doesn’t tell us to get in touch with our feelings, but to get in touch with the truth of His Word because ultimately that’s what sets us free (see John 8:32). To overcome depression, you must study God’s Word and practice bringing your feelings into alignment with what it says.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, keep me focused on the truth, the facts of a situation and not my feelings about a situation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
