African-America History Month, also known as Black History Month, has been celebrated in the United States since February 1926. The primary emphasis of the celebration is a coordinated effort to teach the history of African Americans to our nation's young people. This February, the African-American students of Faith Lutheran will be hosting African American History Week during the first week in February. The celebration will last for four days, and the students are preparing for a great celebration. If you have any questions, concerns or if you would like to help, please contact Elaynne Washington at 702-804-4411 or washingtone@flhsemail.org.

Accessing PSAT Scores
All the PSAT scores from the exam taken in October are now available. The breakdown of each section, including the correct answers as well as a personalized study plan from Khan Academy can be found on your College Board account at collegeboard.org. If you have not yet, you will need to create a College Board account in order to see your scores. The directions are below. Please, please, please...if you have already created an account do not create another, as this will severely complicate all dealings with College Board in the future, from SAT's to AP's to eventually sending scores to colleges. If you can't remember if you already have an account, please go through the "forgot my password" or "forgot my username" process to be certain. Any issues with accounts need to be directed to College Board rather than Faith Lutheran. Paper copies of scores will not be distributed as College Board no longer sends paper scores, however there will be test score interpretation assemblies during advisories in January for further information and to answer any questions.

DEVOTIONAL
Integrity
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. Proverbs 11:3
The word integrity derives from the word integer, a mathematical term for a whole number as opposed to a fraction. So when you walk in integrity, that means you tell the whole truth and not just a fraction of it. That’s why we take an oath in court to tell ‘the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth’. Why do we slant the truth, embellish it, and tell half-truths? Sometimes it’s for financial gain, other times it’s for social advantage. Sometimes it’s to hide our actions, other times it’s to avail ourselves of certain benefits. Jacob, whose name meant ‘trickster’, conspired with his mother and deceived his father into giving him the birthright of the firstborn - twice as much of their father’s inheritance which rightfully belonged to his older brother Esau. And Jacob paid dearly for it. He spent the next fourteen years as a fugitive working for his father-in-law, who was an even bigger and better cheat than Jacob. Finally, in despair, Jacob had an encounter with God and heard these words: ‘I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go...I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you’ (Genesis 28:15). That day Jacob’s value system changed, and the taker became a giver. He told God, ‘Of all that you give me I will give you a tenth’ (v. 22). And after that God blessed him beyond his wildest dreams. He returned home after many years with a beautiful family, great riches, and a new name: Israel. The truth is, integrity pays dividends every time. Why? Because God guarantees it.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to always display and act with integrity – 100%. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
