Accessing PSAT Scores
All the PSAT scores from the exam taken in October are now available. The breakdown of each section, including the correct answers as well as a personalized study plan from Khan Academy can be found on your College Board account at collegeboard.org. If you have not yet, you will need to create a College Board account in order to see your scores. The directions are below. Please, please, please...if you have already created an account do not create another, as this will severely complicate all dealings with College Board in the future, from SAT's to AP's to eventually sending scores to colleges. If you can't remember if you already have an account, please go through the "forgot my password" or "forgot my username" process to be certain. Any issues with accounts need to be directed to College Board rather than Faith Lutheran. Paper copies of scores will not be distributed as College Board no longer sends paper scores, however there will be test score interpretation assemblies during advisories in January for further information and to answer any questions.
-       Go to collegeboard.org
-       Click “Sign Up”
-       Go through the process of creating an account
-       When done, sign in with your new username and password
-       Click “PSAT 8/9”
-       If your scores do not appear, click “Add Scores”
-       You may be asked to enter your password again

-       Click “Update”

My iPad is not charging, why?
We have seen some iPads reported as not charging. Yet when we put them on a proper charger they seem to be fine. In researching this issue, there are some common notes. Here is what I found.
One of the biggest issues when an iPad is not charging is using the wrong charger. The school provided every student with a proper charger. The charging blocks are larger than an iPone charger and provide 12w of power to fill the batteries on an iPad. The charger looks like the image below.

Many times, we see an iPhone charger being used to charge the iPad. The iPhone brick delivers 5w of charging power (less than half of the iPad charger). This can cause problems for the iPad. It will cause the iPad to charge slower than designed and ultimately make the iPad report not charging. The iPhone charger looks like this:

On top of that, there are those that go out to replace a lost charger and find a super cheap one on eBay. These chargers are usually knock offs of the proper charger and have a 90% failure rate in a short time, but because of how they are made may also not provide the proper power for the iPad. Stay away from cheap replacements and get an Apple charger (required for school devices - since that is what we provided).
Frayed, damaged cables or using cheap replacement cables come in as the number two reason the iPad will not charge properly. Frayed ends can short out or break internally giving intermittent times of working or not. These cables should be replaced as soon as possible with a certified Lightning to USB cable.
The third reason your iPad will not charge is a mashup of different issues. These range from shutting the iPad off, cleaning the Lightning port on the iPad, and on rare occasions it is the battery on the iPad that has gone bad.
Hopefully this has provided information that will help you keep you iPad charged and ready for school.
Blessings and Merry Christmas!

DEVOTIONAL
Words – Part
I said, "I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence." Psalms 39:1
An unknown poet wrote: ‘A careless word may kindle strife; a cruel word may wreck a life. A bitter word may hate instill; a brutal word may smite and kill. A gracious word may smooth the way; a joyous word may light the day. A timely word may lessen stress; a loving word may heal and bless.’ The Bible says, ‘No man can tame the tongue’ (James 3:8). ‘Well, if it can’t be done,’ you ask, ‘how am I supposed to do it?’ By pausing before you speak, cultivating a sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit within you and drawing on His power. By reminding yourself that once a word has left your lips it can never be taken back, and all the ‘I’m sorry’ in the world won’t alter that. The psalmist, who’d evidently made the mistake of talking when he should’ve been listening, wrote: ‘I will watch what I do and not sin in what I say. I will hold my tongue.’ In the Bible, abstaining from food for a period of time is called ‘fasting’. It has a spiritually cleansing effect. It draws us closer to God. It strengthens and sharpens us. So here’s an idea for you: how about going on a verbal fast for the next thirty days? At least a partial one. Isaiah said, ‘The Sovereign LORD has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary’ (Isaiah 50:4).Instead of your tongue doing the leading and you doing the following, let your mouth become Spirit-guided.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to use words wisely and at Your direction and not just my whim. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
