Auditions for new members of the Faith Conservatory of the Fine Arts 2018-2019 are coming up in January for all current 8th-11th graders.

Dance: Saturday, January 20th, from 9:30-11:30

COMMUNITY CRUSADER SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
Vegas Strong - A Night of Healing is looking for volunteers.   On Thursday, October 19th there will be a reception before a benefit concert for the first responders and healthcare workers that worked on October 1st. This will be held at The Orleans. Student volunteers are needed from 4:30 - 7pm.  Please wear a Faith spirit wear shirt.  Students would be assisting the employees with escorting guests, bringing food out, or helping with whatever else they may need. HELP THOSE AFFECTED BY THE TRAGIC EVENTS OF OCTOBER 1ST.
The Serve/Receive Foundation will be raising money throughout the month of October for the Las Vegas Victims’ Fund. There will be two fundraising activities on campus this October!
First, there will be a school wide shoe drive among advisory classes. There is acollection box in your advisory class. Please bring in new or gently used shoes – they can be any kind of shoes! The advisory class with the most collected at the end ofthe month will receive Raising Canes for lunch.
Second, there will be a raffle event during lunch and after school on certain days!
The winner will receive basketball shoes signed by Kobe Bryant. Prices are $5.00 for 1 ticket and $20.00 for five tickets. The sale dates are listed below:

PRINCETON REVIEW ACT CLASS
In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate ACT course on campus, which includes 25 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course starts with a practice test on Dec. 9 and runs mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 PM through Feb. 7 leading up to the February ACT. COMMUNITY CRUSADER SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
Cornerstone Christian is looking for student volunteers to assist with their annual Harvest Festival on October 21 from 1-4 pm.  We would need volunteers to help with games and the redemption centers if possible. They do not need to wear their uniform, but we do ask they are dressed respectfully since it is a church and school. They can contact

We ask that they work in two hour shifts and arrive 10 minutes before for training
Shift 1 – 1pm – 3pm (arrival at 12:50)
Shift 2 – 3pm – 5pm (arrival at 2:50)

6-8th Girls' Basketball Skills and Drills UPDATED SCHEDULE:
We apologize for the miscommunication regarding last Saturdays session.
We will make up that session by adding 45 minutes on the end of our remaining 2 sessions on Sat. Oct. 21 and Sat. Nov. 4th.
We will start at 9-10: 30 a.m. in the Auxiliary Gym, then move to the Student Center and finish from 10:30-11:15 a.m. on both days.

Hello Middle School Swimmers!
Just a few items for the upcoming swim season!
Oct. 18- After school until 4:00 we will have a meeting in room 67, to explain all of the things your child will need to know for the upcoming season. 
If you have not given Coach Carroll a certificate for register my athlete, please have your child bring it to me ASAP.
Our first swim practice is Monday, Oct. 23 from 3:30-5 at Pavilion Pool by Palo Verde High School.

Boys Basketball Meeting
Boys interested in playing 7/8th grade basketball should plan to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, October 25th at 5:30 in the Library. Parents should plan to attend. The coaches will discuss tryouts, which will be Nov 6-9, Register My Athlete and general information about the upcoming season. All MS Boys Interested in Wrestling
All Middle School boys interested in wrestling should plan to attend an interest meeting on Wednesday, October 25th at 3:20 in Room 502 in the Aux. Gym. Parents are welcome to attend. DEVOTIONAL
A Prayer for When the World Makes You AnxiousBy Kelly Balarie
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. (Phil 4:8)
I watch the evening news. And, I'm convinced they shouldn't no longer call it evening news, friends, they should call it: The Anxiety Hour. Do you watch it too? Do you feel it crawl all over you?
You see the tears. You see the evil. You see the injustice. You see the pain. You see the prognosis. You see no answers. You feel helpless.
If you could do something to change anything, you would. But, you feel small, unable. You assure yourself, even your loudest call would ring hallow and uncared for, in this echo-chamber called the world.
There is an undercurrent of fear. The tensions under the surface of forced calmness are like riptides. They are rising. We all see them. We want to turn away. Pretend. Run. Hide. Shiver. Shake.
Yet, is this what Jesus called us to? Self-preservation and dread? Worry and anxiety?
Might we consider: The news is not evil, but how our heart distrusts God easily could be?
If we fill our mind with the grim, we can hardly keep our mind set on Him. We can't see if we are blinded by the anger that boils over in our heart. We get distracted and what emerges doesn't look like love. It doesn't look like Jesus.
And what hits me is this: Jesus never called us hone in on what's wrong with everything, he called us to remember God is in control - of everything. This is peace.
