The charity of the month for March will benefit Children's Heart Foundation. We are collecting Easter Baskets for pediatric heart patients and their families. If you would like to participate in the worthy cause, please bring your basket to Mrs. Grant in room 114. We will collect baskets throughout the whole month of March!
Sophomores and Juniors in Spanish III, Spanish III H and Spanish IV H:
If you received an email from Mrs Grant, please read it and see her for an application for Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica-the FLHS Puerta del sol Chapter of Spanish Honor Society starting on Thursday, February 23. In order to be considered, you must have maintained at least an 87% in advanced Spanish classes and have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher. The other qualification is that you MUST be enrolled in an upper level (Spanish IV or AP V) class next year (2017-18) to be considered into SHH. The deadline for submitting applications is March 16th at 3:00 p.m. If you did not receive an email and believe you meet these qualifications, please notify Mrs. Grant. 3/16

Do you have old eyeglasses or sunglasses? If so, Builder's Club is having an eyeglass drive through March 31st! Bring them to Mrs. Walo's room (rm 318), Mrs. Bowline in the library, or any Builders' Club member. The glasses will be donated to the Lion's Club, where they will be repurposed and given to people who are in desperate need of eyeglasses and sunglasses. Thank you for your help. 3/31

POLAND MISSION TRIP
Mr. Crowder is looking for students to join him this summer in Bielsko-Biala, Poland for the 3rd annual Day Camp. We teach English, play games with kids, sing songs, do crafts, and have a great time meeting Polish youth who are around the same age, in addition to the most important job of sharing the Gospel with kids in Poland. This trip will fulfill ALL your service hours, and is A LOT of fun. The dates of this year's trip July 14-25, and the cost is $2,500, a slight decrease from last year. The registration deadline is March 31. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Crowder for details. (3/31)
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to dojust that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. The first informational meeting for the members will be sometime next week. More information on that meeting to come. 6/2

If you are, FLHS Model United Nations is holding its’ 3rd Annual Middle School Model United Nations Conference, FLMUN III, on Saturday, 6 May. You will learn about the real UN and how they solve problems around the world. Please attend our informational meeting on Thursday, 23 March, 7:00-8:30 PM, in the Library. Driving for Peace

Those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness (v.18).
My carpenter friend accidentally cut off a car as he made a lane change. The man driving the car came alongside my friend’s vehicle, shook his fist in anger, and sped off. My friend felt bad and wanted to somehow atone for his driving mistake.
Soon the driver of the car pulled into the parking lot of the company he worked for, parked his car, and went inside. My friend steered his truck into the same lot and went into the building to apologize. The man was disarmed by my friend’s peace-making ways and they ended up having a good conversation. At the conclusion of their time together, my friend gave the man one of his handyman business cards. Later, the man hired him to do a project at his home!
James emphasized the importance of our pursuit of peace with others. As part of his “wisdom from God” passage, he implored the recipients of his letter—persecuted Jewish believers in Jesus—to seek peace even in the midst of conflict. He wrote, “Wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others” (v.17). These qualities aren’t natural in our fallen human condition. We’re prone to live out things like “selfish ambition” and “favoritism” (vv.16-17).
So where did my friend’s peace-making ways come from? I believe they’re the result of the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit. Over the years, my friend has sought wisdom from God and has prayerfully strived to submit to the Spirit’s work. God enabled him to pursue the path of peace instead of road rage. As James penned, “Peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness” (v.18).
By the Spirit’s power, may we also drive for peace today! —Tom Felten
