Sophomores and Juniors in Spanish III, Spanish III H and Spanish IV H:

If you received an email from Mrs Grant, please read it and see her for an application for Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica-the FLHS Puerta del sol Chapter of Spanish Honor Society starting on Thursday, February 23. In order to be considered, you must have maintained at least an 87% in advanced Spanish classes and have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher. The other qualification is that you MUST be enrolled in an upper level (Spanish IV or AP V) class next year (2017-18) to be considered into SHH. The deadline for submitting applications is March 16th at 3:00 p.m. If you did not receive an email and believe you meet these qualifications, please notify Mrs. Grant. 3/16

Do you have old eyeglasses or sunglasses? If so, Builder's Club is having an eyeglass drive through March 31st! Bring them to Mrs. Walo's room (rm 318), Mrs. Bowline in the library, or any Builders' Club member. The glasses will be donated to the Lion's Club, where they will be repurposed and given to people who are in desperate need of eyeglasses and sunglasses. Thank you for your help. 3/31

Climbing Club begins in MARCH for students in all grades. The club will take place on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:45 at Red Rock Climbing Center. Cost is $40 and includes your month-long gym membership. POLAND MISSION TRIP

Mr. Crowder is looking for students to join him this summer in Bielsko-Biala, Poland for the 3rd annual Day Camp. We teach English, play games with kids, sing songs, do crafts, and have a great time meeting Polish youth who are around the same age, in addition to the most important job of sharing the Gospel with kids in Poland. This trip will fulfill ALL your service hours, and is A LOT of fun. The dates of this year's trip July 14-25, and the cost is $2,500, a slight decrease from last year. PRINCETON REVIEW SAT CLASS

In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate SAT course on campus, which includes 30 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course starts with a practice test on March 18 and runs mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 PM through May 24 leading up to the June 3 SAT. Then join Ms. Gieseke and Mr. Crowder on a trip to Peru during spring break 2018 (March 29-April 7, 2018). We know it is a long way off, but start thinking about it NOW. In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to dojust that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. If you are, FLHS Model United Nations is holding its’ 3rd Annual Middle School Model United Nations Conference, FLMUN III, on Saturday, 6 May. You will learn about the real UN and how they solve problems around the world. Please attend our informational meeting on Thursday, 23 March, 7:00-8:30 PM, in the Library. DEVOTIONAL

Not About Fame

I spent much of my post-college career as a sports journalist—regularly talking with Olympic and professional athletes who professed and modeled a life devoted to Jesus. It wasn’t until I had interviewed well over one hundred athletes that I realized I was more apt to share their testimonies with others than I was to share my own. I believed friends and acquaintances would rather hear about the athletes’ journeys than hear about mine.

Scripture, however, doesn’t say, “Celebrities who are in Christ are new persons.” It doesn’t say, “Famous athletes who are in Christ are new persons.” It doesn’t say, “The rich, the famous, the successful who are in Christ are new persons.” The Bible says, “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

While this passage certainly includes the rich, the famous, and the successful who are in Christ, it doesn’t exclude those who lack notoriety or popularity based on the world’s standards. Respectively, it’s the transformation, the redemption, the salvation through Jesus alone that makes each and every believer’s testimony worth sharing. Our salvation is “not a reward for the good things we have done” (Ephesians 2:9).

God reconciles us to Himself through Jesus, and not through our social status or our accomplishments (2 Corinthians 5:18). This means that my faith story is as meaningful and remarkable as the most famous person I’ve interviewed. As is yours. For we are all saved by grace and “are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!’ ” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

Each salvation story is all about Him.
