Please be aware that the basic information (name, date's name, etc.) to be completed on the form should be filled out through the student's account. Students are required to sign the form through the students' account.
Parents must sign the form that they agree to the charge on your student account and give you permission to attend the dance through their parent account. Only one parent's signature is required.
Please be aware that the time of the Sadie's dance has been changed: 7 - 7:30 pm check-in time. 7:30 - 9:30 dinner and dancing. 9:30 dance ends, doors open.

Climbing Club begins in MARCH for students in all grades. The club will take place on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:45 at Red Rock Climbing Center. Cost is $40 and includes your month-long gym membership. For more information, please attend our info meeting on Tuesday, February 28 at 3:15in portable 51.
POLAND MISSION TRIP
Mr. Crowder is looking for students to join him this summer in Bielsko-Biala, Poland for the 3rd annual Day Camp. We teach English, play games with kids, sing songs, do crafts, and have a great time meeting Polish youth who are around the same age, in addition to the most important job of sharing the Gospel with kids in Poland. This trip will fulfill ALL your service hours, and is A LOT of fun. The dates of this year's trip July 14-25, and the cost is $2,500, a slight decrease from last year. The registration deadline is March 31. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Crowder for details. (3/31)

If you are in need of service hours, here is an opportunity on Presidents weekend. This race needs volunteers to man the aid station. JackPot is a premier ultra running event located at Cornerstone Park in Henderson.

PRINCETON REVIEW SAT CLASS
In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate SAT course on campus, which includes 30 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course starts with a practice test on March 18 and runs mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 PM through May 24 leading up to the June 3 SAT. Seniors - If you are planning on graduating with an endorsement from one of our Academies, you need to fill out the appropriate Program Timeline & Checklist, have it signed by a counselor, and turn it in to the Academy Coordinator or their mailbox by February 15th. The Program Timeline & Checklist can be found on each Academy website, midway down the page. If you have questions regarding any adjustments made to the course requirements for you, see the Academy Coordinator to adjust it, but you must still submit paperwork by the deadline to receive the endorsement.
Attention 8th-11th graders! Would you like to visit the amazing Inca ruins of Machu Picchu? Sail to an island on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake? Explore Lima, the historic capital of Peru? Or walk the streets of Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas? Then join Ms. Gieseke and Mr. Crowder on a trip to Peru during spring break 2018 (March 29-April 7, 2018). We know it is a long way off, but start thinking about it NOW. In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to do just that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. Current 7th Graders:
Applications for National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) will be distributed in the next few weeks. If you qualify for an application, you will receive and email from Mrs. Grant. You will then go to her room to pick up your application. To be considered for membership, you must have attended Faith Lutheran all of sixth grade through first semester seventh grade. The only exception to this rule is if you attended First Good Shepherd School all of sixth grade. You must also have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.8.
ATTENTION ATHLETES: 3rd quarter 3week check eligibility forms are due this Friday, Feb. 3rd at 3:30. If Mr. Fredrick is not in his office, please place them in the black lock box outside his office.

Arresting Unrest

Submit to [the authorities], not only to avoid punishment, but also to keep a clear conscience (v.5).
The ten-hour drive through the mountains led Dave from school to his home, but the trip robbed him of valuable study time. By driving faster, he could trim the journey to eight hours. That seemed like a pretty good bargain to him.
There was a problem though. He had to exceed the speed limit substantially (do the math). Clenching the wheel apprehensively, he looked for highway patrol cars the entire route. He couldn’t even enjoy the scenery. By the time Dave arrived home, relaxation had become impossible. He couldn’t sleep or study. His drive had saved two hours in travel time, but he lost more than he gained.
Speeding on a roadway might not rank high on our list of misdeeds, but intentionally breaking even a traffic law indicates a heart that wants its own way. The apostle Paul wrote, “For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right, and they will honor you” (Romans 13:3).
The apostle penned those words during the reign of a regime that didn’t even recognize God. Yet he said, “The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good. . . . [They’re] sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do what is wrong” (v.4). He advised his readers, “Submit to them, not only to avoid punishment, but also to keep a clear conscience” (v.5).
The next time he took his trip through the mountains, Dave found that easing up on the accelerator also eased his mind. His entire spirit calmed as he began to appreciate the spectacular drive he had hardly noticed before. It’s amazing what we can enjoy when we rest in God with a clear conscience. —Tim Gustafson
