1. Opportunity Magical Forest on Oakey and Torrey Pines from 10 - 2 on Saturday, December 3rd....filling backpacks for the Cheyenne Magical School Bus Tour benefiting at risk youth in our community. A Port of Subs lunch break will be provided.

In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate SAT course on campus, which includes 30 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course is an SAT class which starts with a practice test on Jan. 28 and runs mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 PM through March 8 leading up to the March 11 SAT. Attention 8th-11th graders! Would you like to visit the amazing Inca ruins of Machu Picchu? Sail to an island on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake? Explore Lima, the historic capital of Peru? Or walk the streets of Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas? Then join Ms. Gieseke and Mr. Crowder on a trip to Peru during spring break 2018 (March 29-April 7, 2018). We know it is a long way off, but start thinking about it NOW. If you have any questions or need further information, please talk to or email Ms. Gieseke or Mr. Crowder. Stay tuned for more information! (6/25)
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to do just that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. Attention all Middle School Students interested in auditioning for the Middle School Musical, Cinderella. Mrs. Wheat and Mr. Christian are offering a second waltz workshop in preparation for the auditions. It will be the first 2 Saturdays in December and is $80. It does not guarantee you to be cast in the musical, however it will help prepare you for auditions. You may NOT participate if you did the first workshop in September or if you are in "A Christmas Carol." Please see the finance office, Mrs. Wheat or Mr. Christian for a flyer. you must sign up in the finance office by November 30th. Space is limited to 26 and it is first come first served!
Boys Lacrosse: Every Thursday 3:30 - 4:30 there will be preseason conditioning at Village Green Park. This is a perfect time for boys interested in the sport to workout without having to commit.

To Make Them Better

Throw off your old sinful nature (v.22).
After the initial performance of Handel’s Messiah in Dublin on April 13, 1742, George Frideric Handel received acclaim much greater than any expectation he could have imagined. The Dublin News-Letter gushed how the oratorio “far surpass[ed] anything of that Nature which has been performed in this or any other Kingdom.” In a letter Handel penned to a friend soon afterwards, however, he wrote, “I should be sorry if I only entertained them. I wished to make them better.”
Reading the Scriptures, we get the sense that God’s teaching intends to make us better—to transform our lives. After a lengthy listing of instructions for living in Christ, Paul tells the Ephesians that the result of all this information should be a renewed life. “Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life,” he writes. “Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes” (Ephesians 4:22-23). When God takes residence in us, the way we think, act, and view ourselves and our world begins to shift.
If we’re to live true to God’s life in us, we can no longer malign others—even if we disagree with them (v.25). We can no longer allow anger, violence, or a vindictive spirit to motivate us—even if we feel threatened or wronged (v.26). We can no longer use our economic power to abuse or oppress others—even if it’s “legal” and saves us a buck (v.28). We can no longer degrade others with sarcasm or words that wound—even if it’s socially acceptable (v.29).
To follow Jesus means we allow God to transform the whole of our life. We allow God to make us better. —Winn Collier
