SAT Classes
In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate SAT course on campus, which includes 30 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course is an SAT class which starts with a practice test on Jan. 28 and runs mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 PM through March 8 leading up to the March 11 SAT. Attention 8th-11th graders! Would you like to visit the amazing Inca ruins of Machu Picchu? Sail to an island on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake? Explore Lima, the historic capital of Peru? Or walk the streets of Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas? Then join Ms. Gieseke and Mr. Crowder on a trip to Peru during spring break 2018 (March 29-April 7, 2018). We know it is a long way off, but start thinking about it NOW. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to do just that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. Attention all Middle School Students interested in auditioning for the Middle School Musical, Cinderella. Mrs. Wheat and Mr. Christian are offering a second waltz workshop in preparation for the auditions. It will be the first 2 Saturdays in December and is $80. It does not guarantee you to be cast in the musical, however it will help prepare you for auditions. You may NOT participate if you did the first workshop in September or if you are in "A Christmas Carol." Please see the finance office, Mrs. Wheat or Mr. Christian for a flyer. you must sign up in the finance office by November 30th. Space is limited to 26 and it is first come first served!
Boys Lacrosse: Every Thursday 3:30 - 4:30 there will be preseason conditioning at Village Green Park. This is a perfect time for boys interested in the sport to workout without having to commit.

Diseased Hearts

The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? (v.9).
During excavations of an ancient French convent in 2011–2013, archaeologists made a discovery regarding the ancient nature of heart disease. They came across five heart-shaped urns made out of lead, containing embalmed human hearts. Of the four well-preserved hearts, three showed severe signs of atherosclerosis—a heart disease that’s very common today. According to one of the researchers, the fact that humans had atherosclerosis 400 years ago is one of the most important findings of the study. But, then again, human beings have been dealing with spiritually diseased hearts for a long time . . .
In Jeremiah’s day, the people of Judah were so entrenched in their ways that it was as if their sin had been deeply engraved on their hearts (Jeremiah 17:1). But why did they choose to sin when God offered the path of blessing? (vv.7-8). Jeremiah said that at the heart of the problem was the problem of their hearts! They were deceitful—crooked like a bad road. Also, their hearts were desperately wicked— diseased through and through and in desperate need of healing. The prophet said people couldn’t understand how bad it was, for only God truly knows the heart and only He can cure its disease (vv.10, 31:33).
By God’s grace we can put our rebellion behind us and ask Him to create in us a new and clean heart (Psalm 51:10; John 3:5-6). We can possess one that recognizes Him as the Lord (Jeremiah 24:7), is loyal to His Word, tender to His promptings, and responsive to Him (Ezekiel 36:26). When the Spirit heals and renews our diseased ways, God will give us a desire to seek Him, a craving to do what’s right, and the assurance that we’re His children (Romans 8:14-16). —Marvin Williams
