Boys Basketball Tryouts this Saturday. In order to tryout, you must be cleared for basketball through register my athlete. 9th and 10th grade, 8:15 - 10 am, 11th and 12th grade, 9:30 - noon. Please see Coach Walter with any questions. (11/10)

OperationChristmasChild
The charity of the month for November is Operation Christmas Child. Please pick up a box, select the gender and age group for your "child," and fill up the box with goodies that your child will enjoy. Then bring the box back by November 16. There are three dop-off locations: 1. The Library, 2. Mrs. Walo's room, Rm. 318, and 3. Dr. Nuoffer's room, P61. You may also use a shoebox and wrap it up with Christmas wrapping paper. If you do this, please wrap the lid separate from the box, and make sure you pick up the label from the library to select the gender and age group of your child. COMMUNITY CRUSADER SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
Miracle League - an opportunity for those with disabilities to play baseball.
Our League is not possible without our volunteers. One of our most valuable volunteers is our Buddy. The Buddy assists the players in playing their game. Players are paired with a “Buddy”, the Buddy is then with the player the entire game.Volunteers needed every Saturday 8:45 am-noon OR 11:45-3 until the middle of November. Volunteer for one Saturday or all of them.

Attention 8th-11th graders! Would you like to visit the amazing Inca ruins of Machu Picchu? Sail to an island on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake? Explore Lima, the historic capital of Peru? Or walk the streets of Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas? Then join Ms. Gieseke and Mr. Crowder on a trip to Peru during spring break 2018 (March 29-April 7, 2018). We know it is a long way off, but start thinking about it NOW. If you have any questions or need further information, please talk to or email Ms. Gieseke or Mr. Crowder. Stay tuned for more information! (6/25)
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to do just that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate SAT course on campus, which includes 30 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course starts with a practice test on Dec. 3 and runs mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 PM through Nov. 30 leading up to the December 3 SAT. Fireworks and Mercy
READ:
Psalm 103:6-18
He knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust (v.14).
Setting off fireworks after a home team hits a home run is nothing new in pro baseball stadiums, but igniting fireworks after the visiting team hits a homer? No way! But in a game between two major league baseball teams, after a player on the visiting team hit a baseball over the outfield fence for a home run, the fireworks guy mistakenly pushed a button that created a spectacular pyrotechnic display.
A video of the unidentified fireworks guy being booed and trying to hide his shame behind his hat went viral. Surprisingly, the home team chose not to heap more shame on their employee. They tweeted a clip from the movie Dumb and Dumber in which Jim Carrey says: “Pardon me, Mr. Perfect! I guess I forgot you never make a mistake!”
Similar to that home team, we have a heavenly Father who shows us love and mercy—not condemnation. When David wrote Psalm 103, he described God as a merciful and compassionate Father (v.8). Despite human inconsistency, God extends His grace to us (Numbers 14:18; Psalm 86:15). This steadfast love didn’t eliminate God’s righteous anger, but it limited it (103:4,8,11). His love bridged the great chasm between Himself and those who do not know Him. The reason for God’s mercy toward us is because He’s aware of our frailty and limitations (v.14). Instead of heaping shame on us, He lovingly provides our rescue.
Unlike the fireworks guy, we’ve all intentionally “set off fireworks” of sin that make us want to hide from God— feeling fear, guilt, and condemnation. But our heavenly Father doesn’t condemn us; He has mercy on us. In response to His mercy, let’s admit our frailty, receive our Father’s steadfast love, and, as His children, choose to obey Him out of love. —Marvin Williams
