COMMUNITY CRUSADER SERVICE HOURS OPPORTUNITY:
Easter Seals is hosting a ZOMBIE RUN to raise money to provide services to assist kids and adults with disabilities. The event will kick off the City of Las Vegas’s Fall Festival at Wayne Bunker Family Park on Oct. 22. Volunteers needed anytime between 7:30-11:00 a.m.
We'd love to have you as a volunteer for the event! We need 100 people to help run the event as well as zombies. You can sign up to be a volunteer at https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/EasterSealsNevada/zombievolunteers1.html. There will be verification for community service hours.

FALL ONLINE HEALTH CLASS
If you are in need of completing your high school health credit, the Fall 2 session of online Health begins October 24. If you would like to be enrolled in this class, you must fill out the form at this link by Friday October 14 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?fromEmail=true&formkey=dEJZNUFJWENFaTBlYW83cHBnNzdxcmc6MQ. You will be charged an extra $350 on your tuition bill for this class if it will be your 9th class of 2016-2017. If you took Health in 8th grade at Faith or have taken Health at Las Vegas Day School, Adelson or The Meadows in 8th grade, your high school Health requirement is already complete. A free interactive exhibit where guests can encounter 3 other cultures without leaving theirs. We are looking for various positions/days/times for people to serve so guests can learn more about life in Cambodia, Dominican Republic and Liberia.

Attention 8th-11th graders! Would you like to visit the amazing Inca ruins of Machu Picchu? Sail to an island on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake? Explore Lima, the historic capital of Peru? Or walk the streets of Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas? Then join Ms. Gieseke and Mr. Crowder on a trip to Peru during spring break 2018 (March 29-April 7, 2018). We know it is a long way off, but start thinking about it NOW. The first informational meeting is Thursday, September 15th, at 6:30 p.m. in the library. If you have any questions or need further information, please talk to or email Ms. Gieseke or Mr. Crowder. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to do just that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. October 19 will be a minimum day and all students in grades 6-11 will be taking standardized tests on campus. All seniors have the day off that day. 6th and 7th graders will be taking the ACT Aspire Exam, which is a pre-ACT written specifically for each grade level, and they will be excused at approximately 2:00PM. Students in grades 8-11 will be taking the PSAT written specifically for their grade level. Juniors taking the PSAT are eligible for a National Merit Scholar designation if they score in the top 2% nationally on the exam. All other grade levels of that exam are simply practice for the junior year. 8th graders will be excused at approximately 11:45AM and 9th-11th grade will be excused at approximately 11:15AM. Please use the normal after school designated pick-up areas. Students should get a good night's sleep the night before, have a good breakfast that morning and come prepared with #2 pencils, a 4-function calculator, water and a healthy snack to eat during the break. In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate SAT course on campus, which includes 30 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course starts with a practice test on Dec. 3 and runs mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 PM through Nov. 30 leading up to the December 3 SAT. Attention ALL Middle School Boys & Girls Basketball Players and Parents:
There will be a short informational meeting on Wednesday October 12 at 6 p.m. in the Library for all parents of prospective MS Basketball Players. The meeting will cover Register My Athlete, Comments from Athletic Director Cy Frederick on Try-outs and Policy, and Season Notes. This is important meeting for all parents to attend. We offer 7/8 A, B, and C teams and 6th grade A and B teams.

This is the way you should go (v.21).
As I drove home, night had begun to settle with an added veil of heavy fog. When the fog suddenly lifted, I found myself off the road and headed toward a patch of trees. I quickly slammed on my brakes. The low-lying branches of a large pine tree scraped against the hood of my car like hands reaching out to warn me of the ominous trunks just beyond. The dense fog had changed my perception: I had mistaken someone’s back porchlight for the streetlight I knew to be near the curve of the road.
Thankfully, God’s promise to guide us through life’s hard-to-see moments is true: “He will still be with you to teach you. You will see your teacher with your own eyes. Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, ‘This is the way you should go,’ whether to the right or to the left” (Isaiah 30:20-21). He doesn’t hesitate to give us specific direction. Why is it then that we sometimes find ourselves in the “trees”?
The problem isn’t with God’s directions. The breakdown occurs in the willingness of our hearts to attend to the wisdom He provides. Circumstances, selfish motives, and even pressure from others can easily settle on our lives—and our decisions—like a dense fog. Our ability to hear His voice is intrinsically tied to the position He has in our hearts (vv.21-22), and if our hearts become tainted, our spiritual eyesight also becomes hindered (Ezekiel 12:2; Matthew 13:15-16).
Proverbs 23:26 declares, “O my son, give me your heart. May your eyes take delight in following my ways.” God stands ready to answer the call of His people . . . if we will but love and seek Him as He leads us. —Regina Franklin
