Enter the 4th Annual PUMPKIN SCULPTING CONTEST at Faith Lutheran. Any high school student can enter. Your pumpkin design must have some area that has been sculpted and other rules must be followed. Pick up a flyer from Art Rooms 104 or 101. DEADLINE for High School entries is Tuesday, October 25th at 8am. Prizes (gift cards) will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in high school. FALL ONLINE HEALTH CLASS
If you are in need of completing your high school health credit, the Fall 2 session of online Health begins October 24. If you would like to be enrolled in this class, you must fill out the form at this link by Friday October 14 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?fromEmail=true&formkey=dEJZNUFJWENFaTBlYW83cHBnNzdxcmc6MQ. You will be charged an extra $350 on your tuition bill for this class if it will be your 9th class of 2016-2017. The class is free if you have an early dismissal, late arrival or study hall in your schedule. If you took Health in 8th grade at Faith or have taken Health at Las Vegas Day School, Adelson or The Meadows in 8th grade, your high school Health requirement is already complete. Ways to Serve for Mission Encounter (October 20 - October 23)
A free interactive exhibit where guests can encounter 3 other cultures without leaving theirs. We are looking for various positions/days/times for people to serve so guests can learn more about life in Cambodia, Dominican Republic and Liberia.

- 4. Tour Guide (10-minute story needs to be memorized)
- 5. Setup and Teardown prior to and after the event

Attention 8th-11th graders! Would you like to visit the amazing Inca ruins of Machu Picchu? Sail to an island on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake? Explore Lima, the historic capital of Peru? Or walk the streets of Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas? Then join Ms. Gieseke and Mr. Crowder on a trip to Peru during spring break 2018 (March 29-April 7, 2018). We know it is a long way off, but start thinking about it NOW. The first informational meeting is Thursday, September 15th, at 6:30 p.m. in the library. If you have any questions or need further information, please talk to or email Ms. Gieseke or Mr. Crowder. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to do just that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. October 19 will be a minimum day and all students in grades 6-11 will be taking standardized tests on campus. All seniors have the day off that day. 6th and 7th graders will be taking the ACT Aspire Exam, which is a pre-ACT written specifically for each grade level, and they will be excused at approximately 2:00PM. Students in grades 8-11 will be taking the PSAT written specifically for their grade level. Juniors taking the PSAT are eligible for a National Merit Scholar designation if they score in the top 2% nationally on the exam. All other grade levels of that exam are simply practice for the junior year. 8th graders will be excused at approximately 11:45AM and 9th-11th grade will be excused at approximately 11:15AM. Please use the normal after school designated pick-up areas. Students should get a good night's sleep the night before, have a good breakfast that morning and come prepared with #2 pencils, a 4-function calculator, water and a healthy snack to eat during the break. In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate SAT course on campus, which includes 30 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course starts with a practice test on Oct. 15 and runs mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 PM through Nov. 30 leading up to the December 3 SAT. FALL FESTIVAL MIDDLE SCHOOL BACK TO SCHOOL PARTY!!!!!!
Join us for our Faith Lutheran Fall Festival for FLMS students and their families on Friday, October 7 from 5-7pm. This event is put on by our MS STUCO and will have carnival games, food, photo booths, dunking for apples, face painting and BIG PRIZES! All proceeds will go toward “Souled Out” youth concerts and fun events throughout the year. Forms are available in the front office. (10/6)

Four Views

[God] has spoken to us through his Son (v.2).
St. Andrew’s Cathedral is a glistening church near the southern tip of Singapore. While exiting the sanctuary, worshipers can see four distinct and colorful images in stained glass above the front door.
“They represent the four gospels,” my host told me during a visit to the historic church.
Each image is unique. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are represented as four men with different faces, personalities, and symbols. The same can be said of the four books that bear their names. Each account of Jesus’ time on Earth is a unique story. Yes, there are obvious similarities; they all tell the story of the same Lord, but they tell it from different vantage points. Like four biographers studying the same subject, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit each author penned his own version of Jesus’ story. As Paul wrote, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true” (2 Timothy 3:16). And like good biographers, the different accounts weren’t created to contradict but to complement the others. Together they paint a detailed picture of Jesus, capturing different facets of His life and work.
I’m so grateful for the Bible. It’s a tremendous blessing that God has revealed Himself and His plans to us. I’m not always grateful, however, for the way the Bible is constructed. Sometimes I wish it were simpler, easier for me and more like what I want it to be. (Do you sense a problem there?) But when I saw the windows of St. Andrews, my heart was filled with thankfulness. They reminded me of the power and beauty of God’s Word to us (Psalm 119:89-91).
