DONUTS-Just a reminder that Krispy Kreme donuts will be sold Thursday morning this week, since there is no school on Friday!
Spanish tutoring will be provided by members of the Spanish Honor Society, Sociedad Hispánica Honoraria (SHH) on Tuesday mornings from 7:30 to 8:30 beginning Sept 27 in Mrs. Grant's room, 114.
There is no appointment necessary. Students who need additional help in Spanish may come for help at any time between those hours.

ViSA students help with open houses for prospective students, prospective student visit days, new student first days. Pick up a form outside of Mr. Arnolds office. Ways to Serve for Mission Encounter (October 20 - October 23)
A free interactive exhibit where guests can encounter 3 other cultures without leaving theirs. We are looking for various positions/days/times for people to serve so guests can learn more about life in Cambodia, Dominican Republic and Liberia.

- 3. Role-Player
- 4. Tour Guide (10-minute story needs to be memorized)
- 5. Setup and Teardown prior to and after the event

Nevada Child Seekers volunteers will arrive two hours before the start of the Show and Shine event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Volunteers need to check in at the Nevada Child Seekers booth. Volunteers will help set up booth, greet attendees and help coordinate the game and prizes at our booth.

Attention 8th-11th graders! Would you like to visit the amazing Inca ruins of Machu Picchu? Sail to an island on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake? Explore Lima, the historic capital of Peru? Or walk the streets of Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas? Then join Ms. Gieseke and Mr. Crowder on a trip to Peru during spring break 2018 (March 29-April 7, 2018). We know it is a long way off, but start thinking about it NOW. The first informational meeting is Thursday, September 15th, at 6:30 p.m. in the library. If you have any questions or need further information, please talk to or email Ms. Gieseke or Mr. Crowder. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to do just that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. The first informational meeting for the members will be sometime next week. More information on that meeting to come. 6/2
All School Testing Day October 19
October 19 will be a minimum day and all students in grades 6-11 will be taking standardized tests on campus. All seniors have the day off that day. 6th and 7th graders will be taking the ACT Aspire Exam, which is a pre-ACT written specifically for each grade level, and they will be excused at approximately 2:00PM. Students in grades 8-11 will be taking the PSAT written specifically for their grade level. Juniors taking the PSAT are eligible for a National Merit Scholar designation if they score in the top 2% nationally on the exam. All other grade levels of that exam are simply practice for the junior year. 8th graders will be excused at approximately 11:45AM and 9th-11th grade will be excused at approximately 11:15AM. Please use the normal after school designated pick-up areas. Students should get a good night's sleep the night before, have a good breakfast that morning and come prepared with #2 pencils, a 4-function calculator, water and a healthy snack to eat during the break. In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate SAT course on campus, which includes 30 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course starts with a practice test on Oct. 15 and runs mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 PM through Nov. 30 leading up to the December 3 SAT. Cherished Possessions

When she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, “Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin” (v.9).
Jim and Jane experienced the special feeling of being reunited with a long-lost, cherished possession. Several years after their marriage in 1960, Jim lost his wedding band in the waters of Lake George, a family vacation spot. He thought it was gone forever, but in 2015 a vacationer noticed the glint of the shiny gold ring in the lake. After diligently searching for the owner, the woman was able to return the ring to Jim. Jane slipped her husband’s old ring on her finger and “hugged it like a long-lost love.” The two, now in their 70s, were ecstatic to have the ring back!
Luke 15 reminds us that there’s something special about being reunited with a cherished possession. Jesus told the parable of a woman who had saved her small wages and amassed ten silver coins (v.8). But then she lost one of the coins. So the woman lit an oil lamp and began to carefully sweep her “entire house,” hoping to hear the rattle of the coin. One more swish of the broom, and there it was! She snatched up the treasure, probably hugged it like a long-lost love, called her friends, and threw a party to celebrate the finding of the coin (v.9).
The point would have been clear to Jesus’ listeners: Sinners, who are thought to be lost, are extremely valuable to God and are worth celebrating when they’re found. As Jesus said, “There is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents” (v.10).
Like the couple’s lost ring and the woman’s lost coin, those who are far from God are highly valued by Him. Like our heavenly Father, may we be concerned for the lost. May we seek their recovery and restoration by introducing them to Jesus. And when they repent, may we rejoice with all of heaven! —Marvin Williams
