This month’s charity is JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). JDRF works to raise funds for type 1 diabetes research, so that a cure can be found!
Please help support our fundraising efforts by participating in these upcoming activities:
- 1. Donuts-We will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts every Friday morning in the amphitheater for $1, so stop by and get a morning snack!
- 1. “Dress for T1D” Day- Support JDRF by donating $5 and students/faculty can wear blue for the day
2.Restaurants- Stop by restaurants such as Roccos (on 9/14) and Canes (on 9/22) and mention that you are with Faith, and they have agreed to give back a percentage to support JDRF!
We will keep you updated through social media, daily announcements, etc for other important info! Thanks for helping us turn type one into type none! With your help, you can help us reach our $10,000 goal!

Attention 8th-11th graders! Would you like to visit the amazing Inca ruins of Machu Picchu? Sail to an island on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake? Explore Lima, the historic capital of Peru? Or walk the streets of Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas? Then join Ms. Gieseke and Mr. Crowder on a trip to Peru during spring break 2018 (March 29-April 7, 2018). We know it is a long way off, but start thinking about it NOW. The first informational meeting is Thursday, September 15th, at 6:30 p.m. in the library. If you have any questions or need further information, please talk to or email Ms. Gieseke or Mr. Crowder. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." In Philippians 4:6, God calls us to pray to Him about anything and everything in all situations. A new prayer group is starting up to do just that. The group will meet twice a week on Mondays and Fridays in room 112 at 7am, and the sole purpose of the group will be to pray for this school and those in it, this city, this country, and this world. If you are in need of prayer, whether you are a faculty member or a student, you are welcome to come on Monday mornings starting on September 12 and the members of the group will pray for you in person. If you want to request prayer, but not in person, you can send emails to request@flhsemail.org. If you are interested in joining the group and praying for everything under the sun, please contact Hannah Hines by email (hh8604@flhsemail.org) for more information or to confirm your intent to join. JOB OPPORTUNITY
Mindy Lake is the parent of two Faith Alumni. She is opening a business office and is in need of an assistant. The position is part time, 4 hours per day, The person applying must have knowledge of quick books, accounts, receipts, data, and spreadsheets. She wants to see if someone associated with Faith is in need of a job before she advertises it. If you are interested her name is Mindy Lake and her phone number is 702-371-9222. Make sure you let her know that you are from Faith.
All School Testing Day October 12
October 12 will be a minimum day and all students in grades 6-11 will be taking standardized tests on campus. All seniors have the day off that day. 6th and 7th graders will be taking the ACT Aspire Exam, which is a pre-ACT written specifically for each grade level, and they will be excused at approximately 2:00PM. Students in grades 8-11 will be taking the PSAT written specifically for their grade level. Juniors taking the PSAT are eligible for a National Merit Scholar designation if they score in the top 2% nationally on the exam. All other grade levels of that exam are simply practice for the junior year. 8th graders will be excused at approximately 11:45AM and 9th-11th grade will be excused at approximately 11:15AM. Please use the normal after school designated pick-up areas. Students should get a good night's sleep the night before, have a good breakfast that morning and come prepared with #2 pencils, a 4-function calculator, water and a healthy snack to eat during the break. SAT Class
In cooperation with Princeton Review, Faith Lutheran is offering Princeton Review's Ultimate SAT course on campus, which includes 30 hours of instruction and 4 full-length diagnostic practice exams on Saturday mornings at 9:00. This course is valued at $1099, but Faith students can take it for only $599. The next available course starts with a practice test on Oct. 15 and runs mostly Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 PM through Nov. 30 leading up to the December 3 SAT. MS Cyber Patriot Update: We are very excited by the number of students interested in Middle School Cyber Patriot this year. Unfortunately the Cyber Patriot organization limits us to fielding two middle school teams. At this time, we can offer Cyber Patriot to interested seventh and eighth graders. Sixth graders are still invited to join our CX-DaR (Crusaders Explore Drones and Robotics) club where they will have top-priority. The information meeting for CX-DaR is on Thursday, Sept. 8th - 3:15 pm - Room 105.
7th and 8th Graders joining Cyber Patriot: Parent meeting and swearing in ceremony is Wednesday, Sept. 7th - 3:30 - Room 221. See or email Mr. Diaz (diazj@flhsemail.org) ASAP to let him know that you and your parent will be attending.

We are starting Mathcounts this year. It is open to any 6 - 8th grader who has a passion for math beyond what is taught in the classroom. Humble Obedience
READ:
Elisha sent a messenger out to him with this message: “Go and wash yourself seven times in the Jordan River” (v.10).
Eric Liddell, the great Scottish sprinter and missionary to China, won a gold medal in the 1924 400-meter Olympic finals. He was hailed as a national hero in his home country and accolades were heaped upon him worldwide. He could have stayed at home and been treated as royalty for the rest of his life. Instead, he took a boat to China and died in obscurity in a Japanese internment camp during World War II, having turned his back on recognition from anyone . . . except the Savior he obeyed.
Naaman was a great man who served a powerful king (2 Kings 5:1), but he also needed to obey God. When he went to see if the God of Israel was able to heal him, he expected to meet another powerful representative of God. What he got was a messenger—not even “the man” himself (v.10). It got worse. He was told to simply go take a bath in a little river, not even a mighty torrent (v.12). This was an insult to such a great man, and he was furious (v.11). His servants— who knew much about humility—explained the reality of the situation to him (v.13). What was his response after being healed? He gave thanks and glory to God—not to a man (v.15).
Elisha knew that God would answer Naaman. No great ceremony was necessary, only obedience to what God had said through His prophet. Further, Elisha must have known how great men expect to be treated, but he didn’t play such games. He knew that it was all about God and bringing glory to Him. He took none of the credit (v.16).
Like Eric Liddell and Naaman, may we find joy and completeness in serving and following God by His strength. He’s truly worthy of our love and complete obedience. —Russell Fralick
